“Hmph, this man is really too much! He clearly has no talent, yet he acts so pretentious! Once he loses you, Qianxue, even if he’s sitting on mountains of gold and silver, he’ll eventually squander it all.”

Liang Zhixin sneered coldly. “Qianxue, divorce is for the best. A man who only brings you negativity doesn’t deserve you. From now on, I will take Chen Xing’s place and take good care of you and Yuanyuan.”

After saying this, Liang Zhichao glanced at Su Qianxue, noticing her flushed face and clenched fists, a look of uncontrollable anger etched across her features.

“Qianxue, are you angry?” he asked.

“Could it be that you can’t bear to let him go?”

Liang Zhixin’s expression suddenly darkened. “If you really can’t bear it, then go and coax him, bring him back, and live your life properly. At worst, I’ll stay out of your and Chen Xing’s way from now on, so as not to affect your happy marriage!”

His tone dripped with bitterness, like a wave of sourness washing over the air.

Su Qianxue cast Liang Zhixin a glance; the coldness on her delicate face melted instantly into a look of tenderness. Grasping his hand, she smiled. “Xin, what nonsense are you talking about? How could he possibly compare to you?”

“You’re my best friend!”

“Besides, if I had to coax him, what kind of person would he be?”

“Don’t worry, he won’t divorce me. This is all just a tactic to get me to pay attention to him. Where else could he go if he leaves me?”

Su Qianxue smiled coldly.

Even now, she refused to believe Chen Xing would truly divorce her.

This man had loved her for five years. For her, he gave up his studies, abandoned his dreams, and even forfeited the chance to join the world’s most prestigious mathematics research institute in America.

She was his forbidden boundary—the one he would never cross.

…

Monday morning, clear skies.

After dropping off Ya Ya at school, Chen Xing drove to the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau to wait for Su Qianxue.

A light drizzle began to fall.

At quarter past ten, a black Panamera pulled up in front of the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Liang Zhixin and Su Qianxue stepped out together.

Side by side, inseparable, they looked every bit like a couple deeply in love.

As if to stake his claim, Liang Zhichao wrapped an arm intimately around Su Qianxue’s waist in front of Chen Xing.

“Xing, you’re early,” Liang Zhixin said, his tone full of mockery.

Su Qianxue looked at Chen Xing, her brows laden with disdain and sarcasm. “Chen Xing, how long do you think you can keep up this act? Weren’t you going to divorce me? Why aren’t you going in? Don’t tell me you’ve gotten cold feet?”

Chen Xing met her gaze calmly.

Having been through so much, his heart was now as still as a pond.

He no longer wasted energy on idle thoughts or restless nights because of a single sentence.

“Did you bring your ID and marriage certificate?” he asked quietly.

“Chen Xing, are you really going to divorce me?!” Su Qianxue’s eyes widened, fury slowly simmering within.

Chen Xing simply turned and strode toward the Civil Affairs Bureau’s entrance.

“Stop!” Su Qianxue’s eyes finally flickered with panic. She hurried forward, grabbing his hand. “Chen Xing, I’ll say this one last time. Come home with me now, and I’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”

“Turn back now. It’s not too late.”

Glancing over at the provocatively smirking Liang Zhixin not far away, Chen Xing gently pushed Su Qianxue’s hand aside. “Let’s go. You never loved me anyway. Staying entangled is just mutual torment.”

“I’m setting you free.”

“You…”

“Fine. Divorce it is.”

“Chen Xing, I hope you don’t regret this.”

With a scornful parting shot, Su Qianxue stormed into the Civil Affairs Bureau.

The divorce process was straightforward.

With a divorce agreement in hand, they bypassed mediation. Since the cooling-off period had been repealed, the marriage certificate was quickly split into two—becoming divorce certificates.

The moment they stepped out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, the drizzle abruptly ceased.

The sun blazed brightly overhead.

Liang Zhixin immediately rushed forward, beaming with joy. “Congratulations, Qianxue. You’re about to start a new life.”

He reached out to take Su Qianxue’s hand, but before he could touch her, she brushed him off.

A trace of impatience flashed in her eyes, her beautiful gaze tinged with frost. “Chen Xing, if you don’t care about yourself, can’t you at least think about our daughter? If you take Ya Ya away from the Su family, you’ll ruin her.”

“Yuanyuan’s birthday—it must have been an allergic reaction, right?”

Chen Xing suddenly laughed coldly.

“You knew?”

Su Qianxue’s delicate face was filled with anger. “So you knew all along! You deliberately blocked my calls just to watch me make a fool of myself, didn’t you?”

“Do you know how dangerous that night was?”

“The doctor said if it had been any later, Yuanyuan could have developed a respiratory infection from the allergic reaction and suffocated.”

“Su Qianxue…”

Chen Xing called her name again.

Looking at her, he shook his head. “It wasn’t me who blocked your calls. On the day you took Yuanyuan to Phuket, which just happened to be our wedding anniversary, I called you more than ten times. You never answered, and your system automatically marked my number as spam and blocked me.”

“You were the one who blocked me,” Su Qianxue froze.

Only then did she recall. That day was indeed like that. She had been anxious, rushing to catch her flight to Phuket to care for a sick Liang Zhixin, and had no mood to answer Chen Xing’s calls.

Chen Xing watched the embarrassed blush creep across her face and shook his head. “Don’t give Yuanyuan chocolate anymore. It’s time to take responsibility as a mother.”

“Don’t make the child pay for your selfishness.”

With that, Chen Xing prepared to get into his car and leave, but the door was suddenly grabbed by Su Qianxue, whose eyes flashed with anger. “Chen Xing, you clearly care about Yuanyuan. You clearly can’t bear to leave her. But leaving now is the greatest irresponsibility toward her.”

“This is the last time I’ll say it,” Chen Xing said firmly. “Come home with me, and I’ll pretend nothing happened…”

“I’m not going back to the Su family.”

“Bang!”

Ignoring Su Qianxue’s tug, he slammed the car door shut.

The moment the door closed, so did the chapter of five years of love for Su Qianxue.

“Su Qianxue, do you know? The day you went to Phuket with Liang Zhixin wasn’t just our anniversary. That night, I had an appendicitis attack.”

“I endured the pain alone and went to the hospital for surgery, but during the operation, the doctors tried calling you several times. Because they couldn’t find the person to sign my surgical consent form, my appendix burst, and I almost died on the operating table.”

“Since that day, I have completely lost hope in you!”

Su Qianxue stood outside the car, utterly stunned.

What? An appendectomy?
