Chapter Forty-One: When Chaos Reigns in the Nine Realms, the Heavens Shall Be Unveiled
“Did I see that right? The Celestial Lady Li actually touched Feng Xiang!” Bai Xiaotian exclaimed, her porcelain-like face wide-eyed with astonishment.
Feng Xiang felt suffocated, as if he might cough up blood. Indeed, he was extremely close to the Celestial Lady Li. Her delicate jade hand hovered in the air, carrying a strange, intoxicating fragrance, nearly brushing his cheek.
“Great beauty Li, what exactly are you trying to do?”
Feng Xiang stiffly turned his neck, attempting to avoid her hand. Yet, at this moment, his innate energy betrayed him, refusing to obey his will. Uncle E was unwilling to assist, and Bai Xiaotian along with the Dance Sovereign were merely spectators, watching the unfolding drama.
Celestial Lady Li offered no answer. Her beautiful, obsidian eyes lingered on her fingertips for a long moment before finally settling on Feng Xiang. With that glance, the weight of heaven and earth pressed down, and Feng Xiang found it difficult to breathe.
Void! Teleportation!
Feng Xiang cried inwardly, but it was futile.
Celestial Lady Li’s fingertip slowly moved towards his brow.
The entire snowy realm’s chill dispersed, a flood of icy intent surged forth, freezing to the bone. Frost crystal spread suddenly across Feng Xiang’s face.
In the distance, the Dance Sovereign’s expression changed dramatically. Even Bai Xiaotian’s face turned pale.
“Stop!” the Dance Sovereign shouted, the force of heaven and earth grinding against Feng Xiang, threatening to reduce him to smoke if left unchecked.
Concern for Feng Xiang’s safety overcame her composure. In a flash, she appeared between Feng Xiang and Celestial Lady Li, her crystalline white arm reaching out to separate them.
Boom!
Dazzling light erupted all around, holy radiance raining down.
Celestial Lady Li’s fingertip continued its unwavering path toward Feng Xiang’s brow, while the Dance Sovereign’s movement paused for an instant. This moment unleashed a tempest within her heart—Celestial Lady Li’s legendary innate power: Temporal Stasis.
With only a single trace of heavenly Dao, she had displayed her once unrivaled sacred art.
In that frozen instant, Celestial Lady Li’s hand touched Feng Xiang’s brow and gently twisted. Mysterious light seeped through his forehead, and Feng Xiang’s mind buzzed as if splitting apart.
Pain!
A pain unlike any he had ever known!
Feng Xiang clutched his head tightly, his delicate face contorted in agony. Within his clear, azure eyes, the energy of the void surged and reversed.
In a blink, the Dance Sovereign rushed forward, but before she could pull Feng Xiang away, Celestial Lady Li’s immortal figure began to fade. Before vanishing completely, her lips parted and she uttered an enigmatic phrase:
“From death, seek life. Find the undying script. Remember: when the Nine Cosmoses are in chaos, the heavens shall be revealed.”
As her voice echoed, Feng Xiang’s eyes reddened, his emotions wildly unstable. His entire body trembled like a leaf, reddened veins bulging beneath his skin. He held his head and, driven mad, cried out to the sky.
His scream tore through the snowy heavens.
With a thud, Feng Xiang collapsed backward into the snow, fainting.
“What’s wrong with him?”
Bai Xiaotian was terrified. Seeing Feng Xiang pale-lipped and tightly shut-eyed, she rushed to help him up, but the moment her hand touched him, she yelped and withdrew, repelled by a mysterious force.
“What is that?”
Bai Xiaotian cradled her reddened, tingling fingers. She watched as radiant divine energy surged forth, enveloping Feng Xiang and continuously infusing him with vitality.
Nearby, the Dance Sovereign stood in a daze, murmuring the phrase Celestial Lady Li had spoken before disappearing: “From death, seek life…when the Nine Cosmoses are in chaos, the heavens shall be revealed.”
A prophecy. A warning.
The departed Celestial Lady Li, borrowing the imprint of heaven and earth, had revealed her true form and delivered the message. More precisely, it was meant for Feng Xiang; the Dance Sovereign had merely overheard.
Hmm?
Suddenly, the Dance Sovereign’s face shifted as she looked toward the cosmic heavens. The memory of that phrase began to rapidly fade from her mind—soon to be forgotten entirely. The cosmic Dao was interfering, forbidding mortals from knowing certain truths.
“What I wish to remember, no one can make me forget!” The Dance Sovereign frowned, her gaze chilling. Above her head, swirling lights surged skyward, battling the cosmic Dao.
Thunder rolled, lightning flashed, mountain-sized arcs of supreme radiance battered the sky. Chains of order pierced the heavens, clashing madly with a mysterious force, erupting in dazzling brilliance.
At last, the cosmic Dao retreated.
The Dance Sovereign murmured absent-mindedly: “From death, seek life…Remember…Remember what?”
She had forgotten.
“Dance Sovereign, stop muttering. Come look at Feng Xiang—what’s happening to him?”
Bai Xiaotian called out. In front of her, radiant divine energy condensed into a cloud-like mass, cradling Feng Xiang. The boy’s pallor was fading, his cheeks regaining color.
“Feng Xiang, yes, how is he?”
The Dance Sovereign returned to herself, her crystalline gaze sweeping Feng Xiang’s body with divine light. She breathed a sigh of relief, saying, “He’s fine, nothing serious. He’ll just be confused for a while.”
“Dance Sovereign, just now…” Bai Xiaotian hesitated. She had originally intended to let Feng Xiang witness Celestial Lady Li’s immortal presence, but instead, the departed Flower Master nearly returned to life, and the visiting guest fainted.
“Take Feng Xiang home to recover. For now, don’t mention what happened to outsiders.”
The Dance Sovereign’s expression was grave. Under the influence of the cosmic Dao, she had forgotten most of the prophecy.
Clearly, that phrase was of vital importance—a revelation, spoken under the authority of heaven and earth, perhaps determining the future of the sea of flowers.
“Oh, right, Bai Xiaotian, do you remember what Celestial Lady Li just said?” the Dance Sovereign suddenly asked.
“What?” Bai Xiaotian looked utterly confused.
The Dance Sovereign was disappointed. The cosmic Dao had erased Bai Xiaotian’s memory of the phrase as well.
With her own divine power, she could only recall “From death, seek life. Remember”—six words. Bai Xiaotian, having only recently taken human form, stood no chance.
Hopefully… Feng Xiang would remember.
She cast a complicated glance at the sleeping boy. What secret did he carry, to have Celestial Lady Li send a message across time and space, to have Sister Fan concerned beyond measure?
…
Within the Eternal Snow Palace, a youth lay upon a three-yard long bed of white jade. Mist swirled around him, strands of chill blended with pure vitality, flowing endlessly into his body.
At the bedside, Bai Xiaotian rested her chin in her hand, idly twirling a slender, green tailgrass. Her fair, delicate face wore a vacant expression.
Since Feng Xiang had fallen unconscious, the Dance Sovereign had instructed her to watch over him. Yet, spending all day with a silent companion was hardly entertaining.
“Ah…”
She sighed, feeling bored. Suddenly, she noticed the youth’s brows tightly knit, his hands clenching into fists. Abruptly, his body sat upright, his eyes bursting open, emitting two brilliant beams of azure light.
“You’re awake!”
A delighted voice echoed in Feng Xiang’s ears.
His forehead was drenched in sweat. He wiped it, then looked to the side, seeing Bai Xiaotian’s radiant smile. He realized he was lying on the cold jade bed and was filled with confusion, but then recalled the recent events.
“I fainted?” Feng Xiang could hardly believe it.
“Yes, I took you to Ancient Immortal Peak… Oh, never mind, let’s not talk about it. You’re awake, that’s what matters.” Bai Xiaotian smiled, thinking to herself that Feng Xiang’s unconsciousness was not unrelated to her.
Best not to mention it. Best not at all.
