Wang Xuening gradually began to sense that something was wrong. The fog had not been this dense at first, yet Master Lin kept leading them deeper into it.

Recalling Jiang Dali’s strange behavior, Wang Xuening suddenly stopped.

“Master Lin, I think we should take another route. I feel uneasy here, and we still haven’t seen a single person.”

The Wang family’s backbone was Wang Xuening, so when she said this, everyone looked bewildered.

Master Lin, however, did not stop walking. “No, we need to hurry. We’re already a little behind the others.”

Wang Xuening frowned. “What are you talking about? Never mind. Thank you for bringing us this far. From here, we’ll go our separate ways. Those who want to follow me, turn back. The rest of you can continue following Master Lin.”

The ominous feeling in Wang Xuening’s heart grew stronger and stronger. She could not risk taking her family any farther.

But just as she turned to leave, Master Lin seized her by the shoulder.

“What, you want to leave now? Did I agree? If you don’t want to die, keep moving forward!”

As he spoke, the power of a mid-level External Force martial artist erupted. Every member of the Wang family instantly changed color.

Seeing that Master Lin had hurt Wang Xuening, Wang Lei’s eyes turned red. He charged forward against the pressure.

“How dare you touch her!”

Yet his attack looked no more threatening than a child’s game before Master Lin. With a single slap, Master Lin sent Wang Lei sprawling to the ground.

“You! How dare you lay a hand on them! The Wang family will never let you get away with this!” Wang Xuening was furious, but no matter how violently she struggled, she could not break free of Master Lin’s grip.

After all, although the Wang family respected him, that did not mean they truly feared a mid-level External Force martial artist.

“Hahahaha!” Rather than showing fear, Master Lin burst into laughter. “Do you really think the Zhao family would fear a mere Wang family?”

They had already reached the rendezvous point, so Master Lin no longer needed to pretend to be a good man. Being surrounded by a bunch of brats had grown thoroughly tiresome.

The Zhao family had arranged for people to appear from various directions and lure in these weaker martial artists. Their purpose was to make them scout the way first.

These people knew nothing of the dangers in the forbidden zone of the city park. If it were safe, why would it be called a forbidden zone?

Not only had the government’s investigators failed to return after entering, but many powerful members of the Ouyang family had also vanished inside. That was why no one was allowed to enter.

The treasure had to be hidden somewhere within. If they wanted to obtain it, someone had to lead the way.

The Zhao family dared to commit such a heinous act on such a massive scale because they had clearly made preparations. Once the treasure hunt ended, all the news would spread. By then, the Zhao family would face not only destruction, but endless years in prison.

Before that happened, however, the Zhao family’s reputation still carried weight.

Thus, the instant she heard the name Zhao family, Wang Xuening froze. She could hardly believe it, and even her hands began to tremble.

The Zhao family was an existence far beyond their reach—one they could never afford to offend.

“The Wang family has always kept to its place. What does the Zhao family want with us?” she asked anxiously.

Master Lin remained unmoved. “Heh. What are you afraid of? Haven’t you always been curious? Didn’t you want to come in and take a look? I’m giving you that opportunity. Go on ahead and see what exactly is inside this forbidden zone!”

Wang Xuening’s mouth fell open. Being intelligent, how could she fail to understand his intention?

Wasn’t this the same as sending them to their deaths?

Seeing that they had nearly reached the right location, Master Lin stopped and waited. Yet his gaze remained fixed on the group. No one would be able to escape.

If he wanted to kill them, dealing with these children would take only a single move. Even if they scattered and fled, the outcome would be the same.

Wang Xuening’s face turned deathly pale, and her heart pounded relentlessly. She knew she had caused trouble. She had invited a wolf into her house.

She hurried over to help Wang Lei, who lay on the ground gasping for breath, and could not help thinking of Jiang Xiaotian.

If she had trusted him then, would things have been different...?

Forget it. He was nothing but a coward who had run away on his own.

Wang Xuening sighed. Regret would accomplish nothing. She might as well think about what to do next.

Before long, footsteps sounded from within the fog.

Everyone tensed, but Master Lin wore a smile.

“I’ve brought them here. The rest is up to you!”

There was no response.

A few seconds later, Master Lin frowned. “Are you the Zhao family’s reinforcements?”

“No!”

The moment the voice fell, a valiant figure burst out of the fog.

Wang Xuening narrowed her eyes and saw that it was a young woman. Her strength, however, was equal to Master Lin’s—she was also a mid-level External Force martial artist.

Master Lin was taken aback. Then he looked the woman up and down and clicked his tongue twice.

“What is going on today? Troublesome people are turning up everywhere. Miss, I don’t like hitting women, so get lost while you still can.”

The young woman, however, drew a medal from her waist. Embroidered upon it was an eaglet.

“So the Zhao family really is behind this. If you’re connected to them, you’re coming with me. Release every one of them!”

Her tone brooked no refusal. Every member of the Wang family raised their heads to look at her. The hope that had nearly died within them was suddenly rekindled.

Someone had come to save them!

Master Lin was not particularly concerned about her, but the badge made him hesitate.

“The Falcon Unit? And you’re so young? Leave. I have no wish to make an enemy of you. This is the Zhao family’s affair, and it’s beyond your authority. Besides, you’re already injured.”

The woman was Song Yixuan. She had been investigating in secret, but her position was too low for her to prevent everything that had happened. She had therefore infiltrated the city park. Before encountering Wang Xuening and the others, she had already rescued several people like them. She had also fought a Zhao family member of mid-level External Force strength. Although she had ultimately won, she had suffered a minor injury as well.

But that was simply her nature. Once she encountered people in need, she had to save them.

Seeing that Master Lin had no intention of backing down, Song Yixuan assumed a fighting stance.

Master Lin sighed helplessly. “Miss, I gave you a chance. I told you—this is the Zhao family’s territory. You can’t interfere in other people’s business.”

“You can try and stop me,” Song Yixuan replied coldly.

Master Lin remained utterly unhurried. He pointed to the space beside him.

“Why should I be the one to try? Do you really think I’m the only one here?”

At that, Song Yixuan immediately became alert. The fog here was far too strange; she could not sense how many people were surrounding her.

“You’re quite impressive. To reach the mid-level of External Force at such a young age is no small feat. But I wonder whether you could defeat three martial artists at the same level as you at once.”

As he spoke, Master Lin clapped his hands.

“You may come out now.”

The Wang family members grew extremely nervous. If three more mid-level External Force martial artists appeared, there would be no way for them to escape, even if they fought to the death.

A sharp thud rang out.

Sure enough, three people landed in front of him—but all of them were covered in wounds, their fates unknown.

Master Lin froze.

Song Yixuan was dumbfounded as well.
