Chapter 13: The Little Chick
Tong Ying’s eyes blazed with fury, instinctively wanting to strike Wang Lin, but she was held back. She could only glare at him in anger.
In their past interactions, Tong Ying never reached the point of physical punishment before Wang Lin would obediently submit. But Tong Ying, under the guise of helping him improve his combat skills, was really just increasing his level of obedience. At one point, she even tied Wang Lin to the wall, forcing him to comply, relentlessly flogging him for an entire day and night.
Now, whenever Wang Lin recalled those agonizing memories, they remained vivid. He would never show her any mercy. Seeing Wang Lin withdraw the original stones and the cost for purchasing the snow fox still unresolved, Tong Ying’s anger flared even more. However, with Yuwen Yue standing nearby, she dared not lose her temper openly.
Yuwen Yue’s brows lowered, and a chilling murderous intent blossomed from him. It was clear to him that Tong Ying treated Wang Lin like a mere servant, shamelessly stripping him of everything. Sensing Yuwen Yue’s fierce killing intent, Tong Ying finally relented, furrowing her brows as she said, “Junior Brother Wang, can we talk about the spirit stones?”
Seeing Tong Ying’s expression, Wang Lin knew she had not given up on those stones yet. Just as well—he had no intention of letting her off either.
“Sure, Senior Sister Tong, we do need a proper talk.”
“No—” Yuwen Yue was about to speak, but Wang Lin placed a hand on his shoulder, signaling him to relax.
“I’ll be outside. If anything seems off, call me,” Yuwen Yue said quietly to Wang Lin, then fixed Tong Ying with a cold glare. “If you dare to pull any tricks again, I will slaughter all your beast pets.”
“You…” Tong Ying, staring at Yuwen Yue’s icy face, dared not snap at him. The nearby scattered cultivators who had been gawking would end up suffering for it.
“What are you still looking at?! Get lost! If anyone dares to stare again, I’ll gouge out their eyes!” With Tong Ying’s shout, the crowd of scattered cultivators scattered like frightened birds.
Tong Ying stormed angrily into the private room.
“Senior Sister Tong, please sit. Don’t be so formal,” Wang Lin said calmly, pulling over a chair and sitting down comfortably, his gaze fixed steadily on her.
Tong Ying was taken aback. Before she could speak, Wang Lin’s aura silently overwhelmed her.
“Wang Lin! You’ve gone too far—how dare you come to ask me for spirit stones!” Tong Ying slammed the table and shouted furiously.
Wang Lin’s gaze was calm as he glanced over her indifferently and said, “It’s not just the spirit stones. All the supplies and rare materials you took must be returned.”
Tong Ying was shocked. Was this still the same Wang Lin? Opening his mouth to settle old scores so brazenly! Did he think he could rely on Yuwen Yue? Could that alliance last forever?
Tong Ying sneered coldly, “You gave them to me—why should I give them back?”
Wang Lin remained unmoved. “You have to. Do you think Senior Brother Yuwen is here just for fun?”
Tong Ying’s anger boiled over. She slammed the table again. “You’ve gone rogue! Bringing outsiders to deceive your own senior sister! Do you want to betray your master and ancestors?!”
Wang Lin casually scratched his ear, expression unchanged. “Lower your voice. Don’t make such a fuss. But if you can’t hand it over, you’ll really regret it.”
Tong Ying’s eyes widened almost to the point of popping out. In disbelief, she asked, “How much do you know?”
That phrase “you’ll regret it” instantly summoned painful memories for Tong Ying—memories tied to Yuwen Yue and, by extension, the Yuwen family.
The Yuwen clan was a golden family, the fiercest and most battle-hardened tribe on the grasslands, and the illustrious family that had once annihilated the demon race. Their golden bloodline was passed down through the Demon Extermination Art, and Yuwen Yue was their most outstanding prodigy.
She even remembered, still cradled in the arms of Master Xuan Shui, how terrified she was when she first saw the young Yuwen Yue, and how she had cried bitterly.
Though Yuwen Yue showed no overt hostility toward her, she could keenly sense the thick scent of demon blood in his hands.
Tong Ying stood frozen, speechless for a long moment.
Wang Lin secretly smirked but also felt a tinge of self-pity. If his power were stronger, he wouldn’t have to call on Yuwen Yue, but circumstances forced his hand. Without a proper deterrent, Tong Ying would never relent.
Tong Ying’s resolve wavered. Facing Yuwen Yue directly would bring her great pain and fear.
Then a plan formed in her mind. She would rely on her infallible charm to seduce Wang Lin.
She blinked her large, sparkling eyes, pouted her alluring red lips, and slowly leaned toward Wang Lin, exuding a captivating and intoxicating aura—the charm technique of the Heavenly Fox.
Twisting her body, she slid into Wang Lin’s embrace, smiling sweetly.
“Junior Brother Wang, why not just give those supplies to your sister and call it even?”
This time she poured all her power into the charm technique. Even a Foundation Establishment cultivator or a Golden Core expert would be unable to resist.
But Wang Lin was no longer the weakling he once was.
He activated the Celestial True Art. A cold, aloof divine consciousness slowly settled in his mind. Facing the fiery beauty, he only saw the rosy skull a million years from now.
He then pushed Tong Ying away firmly. “Senior Sister, please show some respect! If all the supplies run out, I’ll have to take a few of your beast pets.”
“Ah…” Tong Ying cried out in disbelief and turned her head.
If he had simply changed his temperament, she might have accepted it.
But now, Wang Lin could resist her charm technique completely, standing firm. Such resolve she had only seen in Yuwen Yue.
“I…” Tong Ying was utterly stunned, lost in confusion.
“Hurry up. You have so many spirit beasts—what’s the harm in releasing a couple? Senior Brother Yuwen might be waiting anxiously,” Wang Lin said impatiently, tapping the table.
Under Wang Lin’s urging, Tong Ying still felt dizzy and ashamed, unable to open her mouth. But the situation left her no choice but to speak softly.
“You choose yourself, but only two.”
Flushed with humiliation, Tong Ying produced a spirit field. It was a treasure of high-level beast tamers, akin to a spatial ring, capable of storing beasts within a palm-sized space.
Though it could only contain low-grade spirit beasts, it was still precious.
That was perfect. Wang Lin finally showed a trace of a smile. His whole plan had relied on Tong Ying’s spirit beasts.
Carefully selecting, he chose the scruffy-looking turkey hiding in a corner and the superficially dazzling golden silk monkey.
Seeing Wang Lin pick the scruffy turkey, Tong Ying secretly relaxed. It was one of the fodder beasts, raised as blood food for other spirit beasts—an indication of Wang Lin’s not-so-sharp eye.
The monkey was quite precious, but there was no other choice. It was debt repayment.
“Are you sure you want these two? Once taken, no backing out,” Tong Ying said, her gaze sharp.
Wang Lin hugged the little chicken and monkey tightly, nodding repeatedly. “Thank you, Senior Sister!”
Though Tong Ying didn’t understand how Wang Lin had broken through her charm technique, she felt a vague unease looking at him.
The Wang Lin she could once manipulate at will was gone forever.
