Chapter Ten: Dr. Fu... could you help me with my zipper?
Page 1/3
Fu Wenhan escorted Xu Miao upstairs in silence, only speaking when they reached her front door.
“Doctor Liu went over the care procedures with you, right? You remembered everything?”
Standing at her doorstep, Xu Miao nodded obediently. Just as she was about to thank him again and say goodbye, he said quietly,
“Add me on WeChat.”
His tone was flat, betraying no emotion, as if discussing business.
Xu Miao was taken aback.
Add him on WeChat?
Before she could react, Fu Wenhan added, “Don’t keep inviting others out so casually from now on.”
Her face flushed instantly.
That sounded exactly like a principal scolding a student.
She felt like a schoolgirl caught in a forbidden romance, embarrassed enough to want to disappear into a crack in the ground.
“Oh… okay.”
She lowered her head and obediently took out her phone to scan his QR code.
The friend request sent successfully, and Xu Miao practically fled inside.
“Well, I’m going now. Thank you, Doctor Fu.”
Seeing him nod, she quickly closed the door. The moment it shut, she glanced down at her right hand wrapped in gauze.
Damn, the dress she wore tonight had its zipper at the back.
Her hand was injured right at the webbing between thumb and index finger—there was no way she could muster the strength to pull the zipper up.
Looks like she had no choice but to ask him for help. After all, he’d already seen her wearing only her underwear and managed to remain composed.
That proved she held no attraction in his eyes.
Helping with a zipper was nothing to him.
Steeling herself, she hurriedly opened the door and called after him,
“Doctor Fu!”
Fu Wenhan, heading toward the elevator, turned his head.
“Could you… help me with the zipper? I can’t pull it up with my hand.”
She bit her lip; her cheeks burned.
Fu Wenhan furrowed his brows.
“Turn around.”
His voice was devoid of emotion.
Xu Miao obediently faced away, her heart pounding like a drum.
His tall figure loomed over her, carrying a faint, pleasant scent of the sea.
His cool fingers touched the zipper pull at her back, brushing her skin.
Xu Miao shivered slightly, as if an electric current ran through her.
Fu Wenhan had genuinely intended to help without distraction.
But her subtle tremble made his fingers pause momentarily as they grasped the zipper.
Under the light, that patch of skin glistened like jade; his fingertips inevitably brushed against her warm flesh, delicate as the finest silk.
His gaze followed the zipper upward to her graceful shoulder blades, then downward as the zipper slid slowly.
Suddenly, a memory flashed through his mind: their first meeting, Xu Miao shyly and awkwardly trying to seduce him.
Stop thinking so much.
Fu Wenhan cautioned himself silently.
He shifted his gaze away, his voice thickening slightly.
“How far up should I pull it?”
Feeling his slightly warm touch, a blush spread across Xu Miao’s face.
“Just up to here is fine.”

No sooner had she spoken than Fu Wenhan withdrew his hand immediately.
“Goodbye.”
With those two words, he turned and strode away.
“Thank you…”
Before Xu Miao could finish, the door slammed shut behind him.
Her mind was a jumble, the few words he said before leaving echoing repeatedly.
Add me on WeChat.
And don’t go inviting others out so casually from now on.
Did that mean… it was unacceptable to invite others, but okay to invite him?
As soon as the thought surfaced, Xu Miao shook her head vigorously.
Be rational, Xu Miao!
The way he looked at her was filled with disdain; there was no way he meant that!
Downstairs, Fu Wenhan returned to his car and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Just as he leaned back in his seat, his smartwatch vibrated urgently.
An electronic voice rang out:
“Warning! Your heart rate has exceeded normal levels by 30%…”
Fu Wenhan’s expression darkened. He yanked the watch off his wrist and tossed it onto the passenger seat.
He muttered a curse under his breath, unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, and took a deep breath.
This was maddening.
Why, whenever he closed his eyes now, did his mind replay scenes of her that day?
***
Three days later, Xu Miao suddenly remembered that the registration fee and medical expenses at the hospital that night had all been paid upfront by Fu Wenhan.
Moreover, he had been her free driver the entire evening.
She felt terribly guilty.
Picking up her phone, she opened Fu Wenhan’s WeChat, which she had added just that day.
His profile picture was a deep blue ocean landscape—cold, desolate, much like himself.
His Moments were set to three-day visibility, and completely empty.
Without hesitation, Xu Miao tapped “Transfer.”
She entered the amount: 2,000 yuan.
After a moment, she added a message:
“For medical expenses and compensation for taking up your time that night. Thank you, Doctor Fu.”
Time ticked by slowly.
He neither accepted nor responded.
Staring at the transfer screen, Xu Miao’s heart began to race.
What did that mean?
Had he not seen it?
Or… was it too little?
That notion immediately brought to mind his black Bentley. Though the exact model was unclear, it was undoubtedly valuable.
And the property manager’s almost sycophantic attitude toward him.
Would an ordinary doctor be treated that way by a property manager?
Xu Miao’s heart skipped a beat.
Could he be the heir of a wealthy family?
Page 3/3
Good heavens!
She had just transferred two thousand yuan to a wealthy heir!
This was not gratitude—it was an insult!
She wished she could immediately retract the transfer message, but it had already been over two minutes.
Now there was no face left to see him with.
The Fu family ancestral home.
The scent of agarwood filled the antique living room, as the Fu family’s female members gathered around the matriarch, chatting.
Every month, the Fu family gathered at the old residence for a day’s meal.
Fu Wenhan was the last to arrive.
As soon as he stepped inside, his stepmother Lin Yuan, seated in the main seat on the sofa, immediately wore a bright smile.
“Our Wenhan is home.”
She softly instructed the butler beside her, “Quick, tell Madam Xu that the eldest young master has arrived.”
The butler replied respectfully, “Yes, madam.”
Fu Wenhan, however, seemed not to hear, not even lifting his eyelids.
He walked straight to a solitary sofa in the corner, crossed his long legs, and sat down.
Not once did he glance at Lin Yuan.
Li Wanrou’s smile stiffened momentarily, a flicker of awkwardness crossing her eyes.
Seated on the other side was Fu Wanqing, Fu Wenhan’s twin sister. Her simple makeup did little to conceal her stunning beauty.
A wry smile played at her lips as she raised her teacup and gently blew on it.
After Fu Wenhan sat, his gaze finally fell on the matriarch surrounded by everyone.
“Grandmother, how have you been lately?”
The Fu matriarch immediately scolded him, patting the sofa beside her.
“Oh dear, not well at all!”
“You only come back once a month, and every time alone—I’m tired of it. If you don’t bring a granddaughter-in-law next time, you might as well not come at all.”
Hearing this, a rare smile flickered across Fu Wenhan’s cold face.
“Grandma, don’t expect a granddaughter-in-law from me. Xin Ye will probably finish that task before I do.”
Fu Xin Ye, who had been staring at his phone, was suddenly called out and nearly dropped it.
“Bro! Don’t say nonsense…”
He protested almost tearfully, worried Fu Wenhan would reveal his deeds.
He looked toward Fu Wenhan, who merely glanced at him indifferently.
Fu Xin Ye immediately fell silent, like a quail whose neck had been grabbed, not daring to say another word.
Lin Yuan’s radar immediately activated.
Fu Xin Ye was her own son, a constant headache with his carefree behavior.
She lowered her voice, shooting a sharp look at her precious son.
“What trouble have you gotten into this time?”
Fu Wanqing watched with amusement, almost spilling her tea from laughter.
After she finished laughing, as if suddenly remembering, she put down her cup and looked toward Fu Wenhan.
“By the way, little brother.”
“Grandfather is waiting for you upstairs in the study. He said he needs to see you as soon as you arrive.”
