Chapter Thirteen: Quickly, Seduce Him! Take Him Down!
Xu Miao had been with the film crew for nearly two weeks. Besides working as an extra, she also helped Chen Yunmo with some assistant directing tasks.
During a break in filming, Xu Miao hid in a corner of the prop warehouse and called her close friend Lin Fei.
She owed Fu Wenhan a favor, and he had refused to accept any money from her. That refusal felt like a tiny thorn piercing her heart—she always felt compelled to do something in return to truly repay him and remove that thorn.
Xu Miao sighed inwardly: “Being someone who overthinks internal conflicts is exhausting.”
“Feifei, I want to ask you something. How does one express gratitude to a doctor with a gift?” she asked.
At the end, she added, “This person probably comes from a well-off family and doesn’t need money.”
Lin Fei chatted with her at length, and after Xu Miao artfully explained the background, Lin Fei said:
“I’ll tell you, the best gift for doctors is recognition! Honor! Just send over a banner to hang in their department. That’ll be far more effective than any other gift! It’s professional acknowledgment—it shines on their reputation! Don’t ever just transfer money—that’s tacky!”
Xu Miao felt Lin Fei had hit the nail on the head.
After hanging up, she immediately ordered a banner online.
At the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Nancheng First Hospital, Fu Wenhan had just seen off a patient and was about to take a sip of water when the door to the consultation room gently opened.
Zhang Li from the nurse’s station peeked in, her excitement and curiosity barely contained. “Dr. Fu, are you busy? There’s a surprise for you!”
She and another nurse then brought in a red banner together.
They also carried a cup of milk tea.
“Dr. Fu, this came from an anonymous patient!” Zhang Li pointed to the bright red banner and then to the milk tea on the table. “They said it was to thank you and even ordered milk tea for everyone in our department. The administration received thank-you letters and fruit baskets too! The letter specifically praised our entire Obstetrics and Gynecology team, with you as their representative, for your noble ethics and attentive service. Now the whole department is basking in your glory!”
Fu Wenhan set down his glass, his brow slightly raised, eyes fixed on the banner.
“Dr. Fu, do you have any idea which patient it might be?”
Several young nurses holding their milk teas gathered around, seizing the chance to thank Fu Wenhan. They had often wished for a reason to speak with him, and now they finally had one.
“Sounds like a young woman! She even specified seven parts sugar and less ice on the milk tea,” one nurse said.
Another pointed to the banner’s signature with a grin: “Look at the name; it’s definitely a young person. No one older would come up with a nickname like that.”
Fu Wenhan’s gaze slowly swept over the banner’s eight gilded characters: “Gynecological Master, Physician with a Benevolent Heart.”
There was also a smaller line: “Act of Courage.”
“Gynecological Master? Physician with a Benevolent Heart? That fits,” he mused.
“But ‘Act of Courage’?”
He was a gynecologist—how did that relate to bravery?
His eyes finally settled on the signature at the bottom:
“Wild Philosopher.”
Putting that together with “Act of Courage,” Fu Wenhan immediately thought of Xu Miao.
After all, recently he had helped her escape her fiancé, stopped her father from abusing her, and even took her to the hospital—those deeds could be considered acts of courage.
“I heard from administration that the patient also sent them gifts. The director has been praising our department nonstop,” Zhang Li added.
At that, Fu Wenhan’s usually tight lips involuntarily curved upward, and a faint smile flickered in his eyes.
“I think the patient is a bit careless,” Jian Yaqing, who had appeared quietly beside them, said. She reached for the milk tea on Fu Wenhan’s desk. “Dr. Fu usually doesn’t drink milk tea. I’ll take care of it.”
Hearing the discussion, Jian Yaqing immediately thought of the girl who had made Fu Wenhan perform a gynecological exam on her personally.
Fu Wenhan’s hand intercepted hers before she could take the milk tea, his voice cool: “It’s not that I never drink it.”
Jian Yaqing’s hand froze mid-air, her smile instantly fading.
She clearly remembered that last month when they worked late together, she had bought milk tea for him, but he had distantly refused, saying he didn’t like sweets.
A trace of unwillingness flashed in her eyes, and she was about to say something when the call system rang.
“Number 15, Qu XX, please proceed to consultation room 3.”
“A patient’s here. You all go ahead and get busy,” Fu Wenhan said, his voice returning to its usual calm.
The nurses dispersed in a flurry, and Jian Yaqing reluctantly turned and left.
The consultation room finally grew quiet.
After finishing the morning clinic, Fu Wenhan leaned back in his chair, his long fingers tapping absently on the desk.
He calmly reviewed everything.
Although Xu Miao hadn’t told him the whole truth, that night, there had indeed been a car tailing her.
Plus, her father—there were probably some unspeakable troubles weighing on her.
After a moment’s thought, he picked up his phone and dialed a number, giving a brief order:
“Check the Xu family in Nancheng. Daughter named Xu Miao. I want to know about her family background, when and how her engagement to the third master of the Fan family was arranged—every detail.”
After hanging up, Fu Wenhan’s gaze once again fell on the milk tea and banner.
He took out his phone, snapped a photo of the two items, opened the chat with Xu Miao, and sent it to her.
Then, he typed three words:
“Did you send this?”
On the film set, Xu Miao had just finished shooting a scene with a fairy attendant backdrop and was crouched in a corner eating bread.
Her phone buzzed.
She wiped her hands and picked it up.
It was Fu Wenhan!
He was finally paying attention to her!
Xu Miao hurriedly put down the half-eaten bread, cradled her phone with both hands, and hesitated over how to reply without seeming too deliberate.
Suddenly, two shadows fell across her.
“Are you Xu Miao?”
