Chapter Eighteen: The Purple-Haired Girl in the Leather Jacket
Lin Chen felt somewhat embarrassed under those disdainful gazes but didn’t bother to argue; to him, it was simply unnecessary. He only hoped the young woman would hurry and take the two little girls away, as they were giving him quite a headache.
The woman frowned and said, “Alright, you two little girls, come with me quickly.” She then glanced deliberately at Lin Chen and added, “How many times have I told you not to get too close to strangers? There are so many bad people in this world—what if they kidnap you?”
Seeing the two little girls reluctant to leave, she went over and took their hands firmly. “If you don’t listen, Mommy will have to spank you when we get home.”
The girls were pulled away but kept looking back at Lin Chen every few steps. He smiled apologetically; he truly had no intention of taking on disciples or teaching martial arts now.
After the three disappeared from view, Lin Chen prepared to leave. But as he walked onto the path outside, a troubling scene caught his eye.
There, just ahead, were the mother and daughters he had just seen, surrounded by a group of young people on motorcycles—about eighteen or nineteen years old—the same gang he encountered that morning.
The white princess dresses worn by the two little girls were stained with dirt. Not far from them lay a small puddle, its edges marked by tire tracks—evidence that the motorcyclists had splashed dirty water all over the girls.
One of the little girls sat on the ground crying, her delicate hands scraped and bleeding. The other was comforting her.
The woman was arguing fiercely with a young man with white hair—the very one who had whistled provocatively at Lin Chen earlier that day.
“How do you even drive?” the woman fumed. “Are you blind? Who gave you permission to race motorcycles here? You splashed two little children and scared them so much they fell. Do you have any decency?”
The white-haired youth, named Xu Yi, looked utterly impatient. “I already said sorry, what more do you want? Are you annoying or what?”
The others on the motorcycles wore defiant, mocking expressions, and several of the boys looked at the woman with lascivious glints in their eyes.
“This lady’s got some real appeal, hot figure—I like it! Hehe!”
“Hey, big sister, stop wasting time with Xu Yi. Come talk to me instead.”
“Xu Yi, what’s wrong with you? If you can’t handle her, let me talk to her. You just watch.”
...
Listening to their vile words, the woman’s anger boiled over. “Have you no shame? What do you mean by ‘what more do you want’? Your apology is utterly insincere—it’s clearly your fault!”
“Enough, enough. How about some money?” Xu Yi sneered, pulling out two thousand yuan and thrusting it before her. “Is this enough?”
“You... bastard! How dare you insult me like this? Who wants your filthy money!” The woman trembled with fury.
“I’m telling you, you’re sick. I’m giving you face and you don’t appreciate it...” Xu Yi’s impatience grew. Mid-sentence, he suddenly winced, “Damn it! YouI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
