Volume One, Chapter 11: She's Scheming Again

Shu Xingruo looked at him as if he were a fool. “Have you ever heard of a disease that fades away like pulling silk threads?”
Su Rongze wore a displeased expression, not just because of her attitude but also the look in her eyes.
“I hope you don’t use my grandmother as your guinea pig.”
Shu Xingruo was too lazy to argue with such ignorance and turned to return to her room.
Su Rongze thought she had a bad temper—she would flip out and leave at the slightest disagreement.
Perhaps she really was someone capable.
When Shu Xingruo was packing to return to the city, Ji Guangtong came to see her off and quietly remarked, “President Ji booked two rooms. He and that lady are staying separately.”
Shu Xingruo didn’t want to know what mischief was going on. Ji Yanli’s affairs were none of her concern now.
Ji Guangtong saw no change in her expression and sighed inwardly, “What a pity!”
Ji Yanli hadn’t returned home for days. Returning to his villa, he saw the empty walk-in closet, and suddenly felt as if his heart was being clenched by an invisible hand.
Could it be that Shu Xingruo really wanted to leave him?
Then he thought again—how could she bear to? This was probably just one of her little tricks.
When Shu Xingruo arrived at the Ji family villa, Ji Yanli and Ji Zhixu were dining in the restaurant.
Ji Zhixu warmly called out, “Mom, come eat with us.”
Shu Xingruo said, “You eat. I’ve already eaten.”
She lied; she simply didn’t want to sit at the same table as Ji Yanli.
She found it disgusting.
Ji Zhixu said, “Then sit beside me.”
Shu Xingruo sat next to him, not even drinking water, waiting silently.
Ji Yanli glanced at her a few times, noticing that she never once looked at him.
Suddenly, he felt uneasy. Shu Xingruo used to look at him with deep affection.
He scolded himself for being paranoid—would Shu Xingruo really not care about him?
After the meal, Shu Xingruo took Ji Zhixu and left without giving Ji Yanli so much as a glance.
Ji Yanli felt a heavy weight in his chest, wanting to ask Shu Xingruo what she was planning but didn’t know how to start.
He couldn’t sleep until midnight, realizing he might have become used to Shu Xingruo being at home.
He wasn’t truly concerned about her; let her make a fuss. Let’s see how long she could hold out.

Monday morning, after dropping off Ji Zhixu, Shu Xingruo went to the Urban Planning Bureau to inquire about industrial land.
In the elevator, she ran into Chu Ming and asked in surprise, “You work at the Planning Bureau?”
Chu Ming replied, “Yes, what brings you here?”
Shu Xingruo said, “I’m here to inquire about industrial land—I want to buy a plot to open a pharmaceutical factory.”
Chu Ming said, “I happen to be in charge of this area. Come to my office and we can talk.”
Shu Xingruo followed Chu Ming to her office. Chu Ming had her secretary prepare tea and said, “I’ve been taking traditional medicine recently, and it has really helped improve my mood.”
Shu Xingruo said, “Keeping a good mood is very important; it makes the baby healthy and beautiful.”
Chu Ming smiled, “Thanks for the kind words.”
Chu Ming handed Shu Xingruo a document—a land sale announcement containing various details including location, area, starting price, and more.
Shu Xingruo noticed the deposit was 50 million yuan.
Chu Ming said, “The land auction is next month. You need to submit the relevant documents quickly if you want to participate. The secretary will provide the necessary materials. Feel free to ask me if you have any difficulties.”
Chu Ming had a very good impression of Shu Xingruo and would help whenever possible as long as no rules were broken.
Shu Xingruo asked, “Can you tell me which companies are participating in the bidding?”
Chu Ming said, “So far, only Ruixiang Pharmaceuticals has submitted their application.”
Shu Xingruo gasped inwardly. Ruixiang Pharmaceuticals was a subsidiary of the Ji Group, backed by immense resources. She was unlikely to win against them.
Seeing the darkening expression on Shu Xingruo’s face, Chu Ming understood her apprehension about the Ji Group and comforted her, “The auction is blind; no one knows the reserve price. Don’t lose hope so early.”
That gave Shu Xingruo some renewed confidence.
At worst, she would go all in—bid eighty million—and leave the rest to fate.
Next, she had to prepare a company site, register the business, hire people—a whole lot to do.
Time flew by quickly once she got busy. Before she knew it, it was past 4 PM, almost time to pick up Ji Zhixu.
Ning Kefang had gone to the mountain to pray, so no one was at home.
Shu Xingruo had no choice but to call Ji Yanli’s driver, Gao Feng.
“Master Gao, can you pick up Master Ji Zhixu from kindergarten for me? I have something to do and won’t make it in time. After you pick him up, please take him to my house. I’ll send you the address later.”
Gao Feng said, “I need to ask the president first.”
He knocked on Ji Yanli’s office door.
“President Ji, Madam asked me to pick up the young master. She gave me a new address.”
Ji Yanli frowned. “A new address?”

He had never accompanied Shu Xingruo to her parents’ home and knew nothing about the Shu family’s affairs.
He felt Shu Xingruo was deliberately reminding him that she was no longer at home and wanted him to pick her up.
Such a scheming woman!
Ji Yanli said coldly, “Let her do as she pleases. Go pick him up.”
Gao Feng returned to Shu Xingruo’s call and agreed to pick up Ji Zhixu for her.
By the time Shu Xingruo finished her errands, it was already 5 PM. She suddenly remembered she hadn’t visited Gan Jinglian for treatment and headed to the resort.
When she arrived, Su Rongze was still there.
He was sitting by Gan Jinglian’s bedside, working on his laptop. The sunset cast a glow on his handsome face, like a masterpiece painting.
Seeing Shu Xingruo drive all the way from the city to see the patient, he was surprised. “Doctor Shu, you truly have the compassion of a healer.”
She was definitely not a charlatan.
Shu Xingruo carried her medicine box and approached, “Since I started treating the elderly lady, I have to take responsibility until the end.”
She noticed that Gan Jinglian’s consciousness was slightly better than the past few days and showed a pleased expression.
She took her pulse again and performed acupuncture on Gan Jinglian.
After finishing, she asked Su Rongze, “Where is your uncle? Ask him to come. I need to speak with him.”
Seeing the fleeting smile on Shu Xingruo’s face, Su Rongze guessed Gan Jinglian’s condition was improving and quickly called Ji Guangtong.
While waiting for Ji Guangtong, Shu Xingruo lowered her head to write a new prescription.
Ji Guangtong entered and asked, “Xingruo, has my mother’s condition improved?”
Shu Xingruo nodded, “The elderly lady regained some consciousness today. We can confirm it’s not permanent damage to the corticospinal tract. There’s hope for recovery. I’ve written a new prescription. Follow this to prepare her medicine. I’ll come to see her again next week.”
Ji Guangtong took the prescription with a joyful expression, “Thank you, Xingruo. You’re truly a great benefactor. I have to give you a big red envelope as thanks.”
Shu Xingruo replied lightly, “No need for that, President Ji. This is what a doctor should do. If we can cure the elderly lady, I’ll be happier than you.”
Ji Guangtong said, “That won’t do. You only charged three hundred yuan total, and driving from the city to the resort takes an hour. The fuel costs must be high.”
Shu Xingruo waved her hand, “You’re a special case. Just reimburse me one hundred yuan for fuel. No more.”
She took her medicine box and left, with Su Rongze following her downstairs.
