Su Rongze hurried to catch up with Shu Xingruo, who was walking briskly. Curiously, she asked him, “Do you need something?”

Adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose, Su Rongze spoke solemnly, “Doctor Shu, I apologize for doubting you earlier.”

Shu Xingruo waved it off casually, “It’s no big deal. Nowadays, most people are skeptical of traditional Chinese medicine.”

Su Rongze felt as if she was insulting him, her gaze upon him resembling that of someone looking at a fool.

He was a bit embarrassed but acknowledged that he was indeed in the wrong for having baseless suspicions.

Shu Xingruo’s pace was quick; she was hurrying home to take care of her son.

Su Rongze lengthened his strides to keep up. “Are you in a hurry?”

“Yes, going home to look after my son!”

Su Rongze was surprised. She was so young to have a child, and with her figure and face, it was hard to picture her as a mother.

He had assumed that someone as beautiful as her would be single. Hearing she had a son, a sudden wave of disappointment swept over him.

His voice softened, “Doctor Shu, if you have time, let me treat you to a meal—as a way to make amends. We could exchange WeChat contacts first.”

Shu Xingruo had already opened the car door; she turned back and said coldly, “No, thank you.”

Her tone was chillingly distant, leaving Su Rongze stunned, feeling the cold wall of rejection.

It was the first time a woman had ever treated him this way.

When Shu Xingruo arrived home, Ji Yanli’s car happened to be parked outside.

He had been invited by He Xin to dinner that evening. After dropping off Ji Zhixu, Gao Feng was to pick him up and bring him to eat.

He saw Ji Zhixu looking displeased but dared not show it, knowing how much Ji Yanli doted on his son.

He feigned warmth, “Zhixu, did you miss Auntie?”

Ji Zhixu blinked his big eyes innocently, “Of course, I thought about you day and night.”

Ji Yanli stepped outside to answer a phone call. Ji Zhixu then said to He Xin, “I hope you die soon.”

He Xin scolded sharply, “How can a child be so vicious?”

Ji Zhixu’s little face puffed with anger, “You stole my dad, so why can’t I curse you? Besides, even if you’re carrying my dad’s child, you won’t be able to give birth. Because you’re too cruel; no child would choose you as their mother. You’re a bad woman.”

He Xin was so furious she nearly fainted, eyes blazing red as she shouted, “Ji Zhixu!”

She lunged at him to strike, but Ji Zhixu, having been trained in martial arts by Shu Xingruo since he was little, swiftly dodged.

He kicked He Xin from behind, causing her to fall painfully and embarrassingly to the ground.

Ji Yanli returned to the room just in time to see the scene and felt deeply distressed.

He helped He Xin up quickly, asking with concern, “Xin Xin, are you alright?”

Tears streaked down her face as she said, “A Li, your son pushed me down. And he cursed me… said I can’t have children.”

Ji Yanli’s face darkened like iron as he rebuked, “Ji Zhixu, is this true?”

Ji Zhixu plopped down on the floor, crying loudly, “That woman bullied me. How could a child like me push her? She tried to hit me, but I dodged and she fell.”

Clinging to Ji Yanli’s leg, he sobbed, “Dad, if I hadn’t dodged, she would’ve hit me.”

Ji Yanli was momentarily at a loss.

He Xin, noticing Ji Yanli leaning towards Ji Zhixu, continued crying softly, “A Li, he was the one who cursed me first. He must have been taught by his mother. Before, Zhixu really liked me.”

Ji Yanli found some truth in He Xin’s words. Ji Zhixu had always listened to Shu Xingruo.

The sudden change in Ji Zhixu’s attitude towards He Xin must have been orchestrated by Shu Xingruo.

Ji Yanli pulled Ji Zhixu up to sit and scolded, “Boys shouldn’t cry so easily. Tell your father, why do you suddenly dislike Auntie Xin?”

Ji Zhixu lay on the table in silence, thinking, “Like her? I never liked her at all.” But he kept his reasons to himself.

A waiter knocked and entered with dishes. He Xin’s eyes flickered with a sudden idea.

She excused herself to the restroom and quietly gave the waiter a hundred yuan, “Miss, please help me. When you come in later, please confirm what the child said about cursing me.”

“Sure!”

As the meal was nearing its end, the waiter returned to clear the plates.

He Xin put down her chopsticks, tears welling in her eyes, hesitating as she looked at Ji Yanli.

Ji Yanli immediately noticed her distress and asked gently, “Xin Xin, what’s wrong?”

Choking on her words, He Xin said, “A Li, Zhixu said I can’t have children, and it really hurt me. You know, I… I…”

Ji Yanli frowned. He Xin pointed at the waiter, “If you don’t believe me, ask her.”

The waiter nodded, “That child did say some very harsh things, calling the lady here cruel-hearted, and that no child would want her as a mother.”

Ji Yanli stood up abruptly. “Ji Zhixu, who taught you to say such things? Was it your mother?”

His face was even colder with anger, exuding an intimidating pressure.

Ji Zhixu was unafraid, raising his face defiantly. “Don’t blame everything on my mom. She never taught me that. I just don’t like that woman.”

He Xin cooed sweetly, “A Li, a five-year-old child can’t understand so much. It must be…”

She deliberately paused, looking at Ji Yanli. His expression darkened further. She smiled to herself, “Shu Xingruo, let’s see if you can survive this.”

Ji Yanli, having seen Shu Xingruo just getting out of the car, was now seething with rage.

He stormed up to her, furious, “Shu Xingruo, I know you’re jealous of Xin Xin. I’ve warned you many times—don’t corrupt my son.”

Shu Xingruo was bewildered, “What have I taught him?”

Ji Zhixu, fearing Ji Yanli might hit Shu Xingruo, rushed over to protect her. “Dad, don’t hit Mom.”

Ji Yanli laughed bitterly with anger, “Shu Xingruo, this is your last warning. If you corrupt my son again, I won’t hesitate to divorce you and take him away. If you can’t teach him properly, I will.”

His eyes were dark and resolute—he was truly angry.

Shu Xingruo’s heart trembled; she knew she couldn’t win against Ji Yanli now. She lowered her gaze in surrender. “Alright, I understand. I will discipline Zhixu properly.”

Ji Zhixu was so furious he looked like he might burst a vein, his face flushed and puffed.

Seeing Ji Yanli not taking action against Shu Xingruo, He Xin quickly got out of the car and approached him. “A Li, I want her to apologize to me for what happened today.”

Ji Yanli commanded firmly, “Apologize!”

Ji Zhixu objected, “I was the one who cursed her. Why should my mom apologize?”

He Xin knew Shu Xingruo’s temperament was fierce; forcing her like this would surely cause a rift between her and Ji Yanli.

She waited eagerly to watch the drama unfold.
