Chapter Forty-Six: If You Think You Can, Then Step Up!

Both sides had just begun to set up wards around the dragon pit, but as the opposing team moved closer, Zhou Chu Yi’s Prince Jarvan caught the enemy AD’s lapse in vision and immediately unleashed an EQ flash, attempting to knock up the opposing AD.

However, Zhou Chu Yi’s next move nearly made Feng Yisheng spit out the water he’d just drunk.

Because Zhou Chu Yi didn’t use the EQ flash that Feng Yisheng expected; instead, he went for a flash EQ.

Though the names differ by only a word, in ranked play, the execution and outcome are worlds apart.

By now, in the ninth season of League of Legends, anyone ranked gold or higher knows that if Jarvan flashes before EQ, the enemy will react in time.

Moreover, without catching the key target, Jarvan loses both escape abilities, leaving himself vulnerable.

Sure enough, the enemy AD was Varus. Varus reacted instantly, sidestepping Jarvan’s EQ with ease.

In that moment, the purple side’s support also responded—Braum applied his passive to Jarvan.

Poor Jarvan could only throw down his Cataclysm ultimate at Varus before being instantly eliminated by the four enemies.

With the blue side’s jungler dead, their forces crumbled, and the purple side’s four players gave chase.

Fortunately, the fight had only just started. Varus’s ultimate hit only the opposing top laner, the Stone Man, who escaped with his own ultimate.

After the clash, only the jungler had fallen.

But the loss was considerable for the blue side: their jungler was dead, the infernal dragon was certainly lost, and all three lanes had to play cautiously.

Still, Zhou Chu Yi had already cleared the lower jungle before initiating the dragon fight, so his death didn’t cost him much gold or experience.

Feng Yisheng could easily imagine Zhou Chu Yi regretting his actions now. Shaking his head, he said, “Zhou Chu Yi, if you can’t EQ flash, don’t flash EQ!”

His words were meant to advise Zhou Chu Yi against reckless teamfights.

But Zhou Chu Yi, wearing headphones and immersed in the game, didn’t realize Feng Yisheng was speaking. Hearing the comment, he thought someone was mocking him.

He retorted, “You spectators only know how to talk. If you’re so good, why don’t you play!”

Feng Yisheng laughed and replied, “Alright, Zhou Chu Yi, I’ll play for you this round!”

Zhou Chu Yi was a bit puzzled, the voice sounded familiar and called him by name—someone he knew, surely.

He pushed his chair back and stood up. Seeing it was Feng Yisheng, he smiled awkwardly. “Sorry, Feng Yisheng, I didn’t know it was you.”

Feng Yisheng waved a hand. “No worries, I’ll play for you this round.”

Zhou Chu Yi was more than happy to let him take over, knowing Feng Yisheng was a King-tier player from Ionia.

Everyone knows that Ionia is the strongest region in League of Legends, and its King-tier players represent the highest level of skill.

But the gap between that level and ordinary players is still hard for many to grasp.

So Zhou Chu Yi wanted to see Feng Yisheng’s gameplay firsthand—if only to secure next month’s tournament.

Even though he’d won his bet with Guan Zhidao in yesterday’s Friday basketball match, and Guan had promised to go easy, it’s always best to have absolute confidence.

That’s why Zhou Chu Yi invited Feng Yisheng as a substitute.

While Zhou Chu Yi’s mind raced with these thoughts, Feng Yisheng had already taken his seat.

It had been nearly twenty days since Feng Yisheng returned from Mount Tai to Changnan City, and he hadn’t played League of Legends in all that time.

But after seven or eight seasons, the moment he touched the keyboard, Feng Yisheng knew he was about to take control.

He glanced at the bottom-right corner of the mini-map, checking the ultimate timers. Aside from the AD Tristana, who had used her ultimate in the dragon fight, all ultimates were ready.

Looking over the five purple-side heroes, Feng Yisheng already had a route planned for catching someone out.

He spoke to the top-laner playing Stone Man: “Hold your ultimate, wait for me to gank.”

The blue buff had been cleared before the dragon fight by Zhou Chu Yi, and their own vampire midlaner didn’t need blue buff.

The wolves and frog had been cleared as well. After finishing those camps, Jarvan’s ultimate was only a few seconds from being ready. Feng Yisheng directed Jarvan toward the top lane.

Stone Man had trouble pushing against the enemy top, who had bought magic resist boots specifically to withstand Stone Man’s magic damage and push the lane.

No armor at all, and playing as Weapon Master.

Even if Weapon Master popped his ultimate, he shouldn’t survive Jarvan with Electrocute.

Feng Yisheng had to give Zhou Chu Yi credit for choosing the right keystone—Electrocute is best for solo queue, not pro matches, since junglers should focus on damage.

Electrocute on a jungler is excellent for bursting damage quickly.

That’s how you control the pace and climb the ladder.

Feng Yisheng figured that once he arrived, a full combo would be enough to kill Weapon Master; if not, Stone Man’s damage would finish the job.

Jarvan used a basic attack to burst the blast cone, jumping into the river brush. By now, Weapon Master had already crossed the river and couldn’t retreat in time.

Feng Yisheng called out, “Ult now!”

Stone Man’s unstoppable force slammed into Weapon Master. Weapon Master didn’t flash; he activated his ultimate, but was knocked out of his leap by Stone Man.

Jarvan arrived at the fight, landing an EQ to try and knock up Weapon Master.

Standing behind Feng Yisheng, Zhou Chu Yi had a strange expression, thinking the EQ couldn’t possibly connect.

But Feng Yisheng wasn’t aiming to knock up Weapon Master; instead, his EQ scared Weapon Master into burning flash.

Feng Yisheng smirked, murmuring, “You still had to use flash.”

He had anticipated Weapon Master would flash to escape, and everything played out exactly as planned. Jarvan’s Cataclysm trapped Weapon Master.

By now, Weapon Master’s ultimate had expired, and Stone Man’s earlier ultimate had reduced his health to just two-thirds.

Stone Man arrived, landing a Q on Weapon Master, while Jarvan canceled the wall of his ultimate.

Weapon Master had activated his spin, but it ended quickly, and Stone Man stuck to him.

Jarvan followed up with an auto attack, triggering Electrocute, and claimed the kill.
