Chapter 39: You Think You Deserve This? Go to Hell!
In the evening, just as Aunt Li had left, Bai Lu carried a tray to deliver dinner to her father. She was truly frightened by his scoldings, so she set the tray at the door, rang the bell, and ran away immediately.
Lu Yiting opened the door, saw the steaming food at his doorstep, and caught sight of her fleeing figure. Enraged, he cursed, “Delivering food like a thief! Shameful! Utterly lacking in manners!”
Yet, for all his complaints, he still carried the tray inside.
Bai Lu hid around the corner. Seeing her father wouldn’t go hungry, she returned to 888 with her mind at ease.
For the next two days, Bai Lu dutifully brought her father meals on time.
He truly was delicate—never lifting a finger to wash a single dish. He ate, but left the cleanup. Bai Lu could only sneak in to wash the dishes and put them back in the cabinet, hoping Aunt Li wouldn’t notice.
On the third morning, Aunt Li told her, “Lu, everything’s ready. Go deliver breakfast next door.”
Bai Lu hesitated. “Next door is Movie King Lu. He’s my senior—I really respect him.”
Aunt Li nodded. “I know. Hurry, don’t let him eat cold food. When he was young, acting left him with a weak stomach.”
Indeed, her father was who he was—his fans ranged from nine to ninety-nine.
Aunt Li clearly had a discerning eye, being a fan of both father and daughter. Excellent!
As usual, Bai Lu planned to leave the tray, ring the bell, and dash, but today, she was caught red-handed.
Her father leaned against the door smoking, obviously waiting for her.
Bai Lu’s scalp tingled. She raised the tray with both hands, bracing herself for a scolding. “Movie King Lu… here’s your breakfast.”
Lu Yiting sneered. “Just so you know, you don’t need to bother anymore. My cook is here.”
“Lu Er, who the hell are you calling your cook? Say it again? Want me to let you starve to death…”
Her father slammed the door.
Bai Lu was speechless.
Fine, as long as he didn’t go hungry.
Her father’s friends were just as foul-mouthed as he was.
She was truly terrified that one day she’d hear Uncle Gu cursing up and down just like her father.
At least, let Uncle Gu be his genuine self!
After hiding for two more days, Bai Lu knew she had to show herself.
If she kept hiding, she feared Shen Yanghong would call the police, wasting resources and troubling the officers.
She also couldn’t keep burdening A-Sui.
One must have self-respect.
You can’t shamelessly take someone’s kindness for granted.
Bai Lu took the initiative to contact Shen Yanghong. He didn’t scold her, only asked where she was and said he’d come pick her up.
Of course, she wouldn’t give him the address of the apartment. She asked, “Where are you? I’ll take a taxi to meet you.”
Shen Yanghong didn’t press further, simply gave her the address of a five-star hotel. “Call me when you arrive, I’ll come down and pay your fare.”
It was quite close to the richest man’s apartment—just a ten-minute taxi ride.
Aunt Li was reluctant to see her go but had no choice. She hugged her and helped pack her things.
Bai Lu thanked Aunt Li, hesitated, then went next door to knock on her father’s door.
For once, he didn’t scold her. Cigarette dangling from his lips, his handsome face cold, he said, “Speak.”
“Movie King Lu, I’ve found a place to stay. I’m leaving today. Just wanted to let you know. Aunt Li is your fan—if you get hungry, knock on her door and ask her to cook for you, alright? Don’t starve yourself.”
Lu Yiting grew irritated at her ingratiating smile. “No need, my coo—friend will cook.”
Bai Lu smiled sweetly. “That’s good. Thank you for giving me a chance. I really want to sign with your studio, but my father already sold my contract to Yu Xing Entertainment… There’s nothing I can do, I won’t be of age for another month, I—”
Lu Yiting shut the door in her face.
Bai Lu stared in disbelief.
He hadn’t scolded her! Hadn’t told her to get lost!
His attitude towards her had improved!
Clearly, those meals hadn’t been in vain.
But if she wanted to draw closer to him, the road ahead was still long.
Who knew how many years it would take before she could tell him the shocking news that she was his daughter, without being dismissed as crazy, and that he’d agree to a paternity test.
Alas…
The road stretches far ahead.
Before she stepped into the elevator, Bai Lu hugged Aunt Li tightly. “Thank you for taking care of me these past few days. I’ll always miss your cooking.”
Aunt Li said, “Whenever you miss my food, come back. Mr. Tang said you should keep the key card.”
Bai Lu shook her head. “I left the key card on the coffee table in the living room. Goodbye, Aunt Li.”
Aunt Li understood—being a young actress, she couldn’t keep staying at a man’s apartment without attracting rumors.
Paparazzi wouldn’t care whether Mr. Tang was her fan; they’d simply gossip that Bai Lu was being kept by a wealthy man!
Bai Lu hailed a taxi, bundled up in hat, scarf, mask, and sunglasses. The driver kept sneaking glances at her, probably thinking she was odd for dressing like this in the dead of winter.
As they neared their destination, Bai Lu called Shen Yanghong. “I’m almost there. Come down and help me with the fare.”
The moment she hung up, the driver exclaimed, “Bai Lu! You really are Lu!”
Bai Lu was baffled.
How did you recognize me, wrapped up like this?
The driver said, “When you got in and gave the address, your voice sounded familiar. After hearing it again, I was sure!”
She had no choice but to remove her mask, hat, and sunglasses. “Hello, Uncle Driver.”
“Lu, I’m your fan! I’ve watched every show you’ve been in!”
“It… shows.”
Bai Lu deftly took a signed photo from her bag. “Here you go, Uncle Driver.”
He was delighted. “No need for the fare, this is enough.”
“No, I have to pay.” Bai Lu insisted. After parking, the driver tried to usher her out, but she refused to leave. When she saw Shen Yanghong coming over, she quickly waved. “Over here!”
Shen Yanghong hurried over and bent down to ask, “How much? I’ll scan to pay.”
As soon as he saw Shen Yanghong, the driver gave him the finger. “Screw you, you animal!”
Bai Lu was stunned.
Are all my fans this aggressive?
Shen Yanghong’s face darkened; he said nothing, just quietly went to fetch her suitcase from the trunk.
Yu Fuqing opened the car door. “Lu, take your time.”
The driver gave him another finger. “You think you’re worthy of chasing Lu? Screw you!”
Bai Lu was speechless.
It seemed everyone online had seen those short videos of Yu Fuqing and Shen Xinluo.
She really liked this driver uncle.
He truly was her fan—his cursing was powerful and perfectly pronounced!
