Chapter 2: Never an Exception
Jiang Yu stood in the center of the private room, her gaze calmly sweeping across the space.
Yu Zhiyuan set down his cigar, his smile oily and insincere.
"Xiao Jiang, come, have a seat. Let's talk about your future. I heard your contract is almost up. Any interest in joining my company?"
Jiang Yu let out a cold laugh, her tone dismissive.
"President Yu, I still belong to President Fu. Until my contract ends, I won't be going anywhere."
Yu Zhiyuan snorted, leaning back on the sofa with a look of disdain in his eyes.
"President Fu sent you here, didn't he? That means you have his tacit permission to follow me. What, still trying to act pure and lofty?"
A chill settled deeper in Jiang Yu's heart.
So Fu Boyun really intended to use her as a bargaining chip.
She had thought she was nothing more than a plaything in his hands, never imagining she was also a pawn on his chessboard.
Yu Zhiyuan looked at her silence, the smirk on his lips growing more arrogant.
"Miss Jiang, I can't stand people who put on airs. Since President Fu let me make a selection, I won't stand on ceremony."
Suppressing her disgust, Jiang Yu took a step back and narrowed her eyes in a smile.
"President Yu, you think so highly of me—what an honor. But haven't you always been interested in Shen Rongyin's scripts? She's a top screenwriter in the industry, surely a talent worth your collaboration."
Yu Zhiyuan paused, clearly caught off guard by her sudden change of topic.
"Shen Rongyin? She's with Fu Boyun. Do you really think I could get my hands on her scripts?"
Jiang Yu shrugged, utterly unconcerned.
"If President Fu can send me here, it shows he doesn't care much for anyone else. If you're interested, I can make the introduction for you."
Yu Zhiyuan's eyes flickered, betraying his interest. He looked Jiang Yu over and asked with a smile,
"Aren't you afraid of angering President Fu by doing this?"
"He already sent me here—what do I have left to fear?"
Jiang Yu's lips curved with a faint smile, though her eyes were icy cold.
Yu Zhiyuan said nothing more, seemingly deep in thought.
Seeing this, Jiang Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As expected, profit was the only thing that truly tempted men like him.
Seizing the moment while Yu Zhiyuan let his guard down, she crept toward the corner of the room, her gaze sweeping over her surroundings until she finally spotted a wine bottle.
"President Yu, you really should consider Shen Rongyin. After all—"
She spoke as she suddenly grabbed the bottle and smashed it hard against the lock on the door.
Bang—the lock broke.
"You—!"
Yu Zhiyuan sprang to his feet, eyes wide in shock, clearly never expecting such force from a woman he thought frail.
"Goodbye, President Yu. Don't worry, I won't forget what I promised you."
Jiang Yu lifted her dress and quickly pushed open the door, dashing out without a backward glance toward the grand hall of the Cloud Peak Club.
Emerging into the cold night air, Jiang Yu stood in the wind outside the club. Her red evening gown billowed in the night breeze, a jarring splash of color in the darkness.
By now, her heart was ablaze with fury.
She took out her phone and dialed a familiar number.
When the call connected, her tone was icy.
"Fu Boyun, what a master of calculation you are."
There was a brief silence on the other end before a man's low voice sounded.
"Jiang Yu, I gave you a choice. It's not my fault you didn't know how to cherish it."
She laughed coldly. "A choice? Fu Boyun, you call sending me to another man's bed for a business deal a choice?"
"Why so upset? Didn't you already manage to escape?"
His voice was utterly indifferent.
Jiang Yu gripped her phone, her knuckles whitening. She looked around and, sure enough, spotted his luxury car parked across the street—a limited edition Maybach.
"Fine, Fu Boyun! Are you toying with me?"
With that, she hung up at once.
Indeed, she had never been the exception in Fu Boyun's world.
