Chapter 8: What Did I Miss? Who Puts the Good Person at the End!
[Option 1]: Comfortable knitted rear seat.
[Option 2]: Comfortable short single knitted bed.
Lin Mu shook his head. Wouldn’t choosing the first option just reverse his previous dismantling? As for the second, what difference did it really make from the first? Wasn’t it just removing the backrest? Lin Mu was speechless. As nice as this skill was, the things it produced were sometimes hard to comprehend.
He thought for a moment and tossed the front passenger seat in as well. The option now changed to a widened short bed... Was this some kind of joke? Who asked for extra width?
He tried several different materials, but the base result was always a bed, only the styles changed. Using wood gave him a tatami mat. Using iron ingots resulted in a reinforced iron bed. Using plastic, a plastic ornament appeared by the bed...
Shaking his head, Lin Mu took everything back out and began testing each material one by one. After all, he had plenty of time.
At seven o’clock, as the sun set, Lin Mu slowed down. He had no choice; he didn’t even have high beams! Only low beams! And his visible range was limited to ten meters. Even though the road was a straight line and there were no other cars, who knew if a turn might suddenly appear ahead.
During this stretch of time, Lin Mu had tried almost every material. Modifications were possible, but not necessary. He had only used up some copper and iron ingots to reinforce the car’s body.
[Successfully recycled a scrap silver resource box, obtained silver ingot x1]
...
[Successfully recycled a scrap gold resource box, obtained gold ingot x1]
With that, the last two types of treasure chests were recycled as well. Now, only the diamond box remained, but he hadn’t come across a single diamond resource box yet.
“The rules at the beginning mentioned that resources are richer at night. Maybe I’ll run into a diamond box,” Lin Mu thought, glancing at the distance remaining—thirty kilometers. At his current speed, he’d get there in just over forty minutes.
He activated the modification skill and casually placed a silver ingot inside. No response. He tried again in the second slot, and this time, the spinning icon appeared—promising.
After about twenty seconds, three options popped up.
[Option 1]: Vehicle speed increased by 10 km/h
[Option 2]: Headlight brightness increased
[Option 3]: Activate high beams
Lin Mu raised his brows. No wonder this was an SSS-level modification function; even these were options. He’d thought that features like high beams or increased speed would only come with vehicle upgrades or a core upgrade, but apparently, direct modification was enough.
No need to think—of course he’d pick option three. With high beams, he could speed up.
The moment he selected it, the vehicle shuddered slightly. Lin Mu tried switching on the high beams and, to his surprise, they worked. Though the brightness was hardly impressive, in these circumstances, it would have to do.
He then placed two gold ingots inside, and options appeared again. This time, however, he didn’t rush. These materials weren’t as easy to come by, so better to hold onto them for now. Who knew when he might need them? In any case, they were nothing like iron ingots, those could be found easily. So far, he hadn’t obtained any from boxes.
He opened the trading center; the inventory had grown again. It was still the usual stuff, but the quantity required for exchange had increased. Considering his current resources, meat was what he had most of. Should he trade some for other supplies?
He browsed through the options but found nothing useful.
[Successfully recycled a plastic bottle, obtained plastic x1]
!!!
It really worked! Half an hour ago, he’d tossed an empty drink bottle into the back processing unit, and it actually produced something.
Did that mean anything could be recycled now? He quickly opened the workbench and crafted a stove. Then, using some wood, he crafted small sticks at the workbench and lit a fire.
On the stove, a timer was displayed: one hour. He added another batch of sticks and the time increased to two hours.
From his backpack, he took out a piece of snake meat and placed it on the stove. A timer appeared over the meat as well—fifteen minutes. Another countdown.
How curious. So, you didn’t need to know how to cook—all you had to do was place the food on the stove, and when the timer was up, it was ready to eat? For people who couldn’t cook, this was too convenient. No wonder it was called a game.
As the fire burned, he soon felt a clear rise in temperature inside the car. He glanced at the thermometer.
Outside: minus one degree Celsius.
Inside: plus twenty-four degrees.
Now that was comfortable. If he’d known the stove could raise the temperature, he would’ve made one sooner.
Fifteen minutes later, he took the snake meat off the stove.
[Grilled snake meat 100g]: Restores 50 fullness.
What? It was 200 grams of snake meat, and after grilling, only half remained? That didn’t seem right. Did it really lose that much water? And what was this “fullness” anyway?
This reminded him of the snake gallbladder, which had displayed “constitution.” Lin Mu could only consult the survival guide.
“What is this fullness? And what does constitution mean?”
[Personal information is still being generated. Please be patient, player. At midnight, you may access your personal information panel.]
Fine.
“Another question: can blueprints in the workbench be used only once, or can they be unlocked permanently?”
[After opening the workbench, please scroll to the bottom of the menu to check.]
Following the instructions, Lin Mu opened the workbench and scrolled down the menu. Only then did he realize there were so many options hidden there. At the very bottom was indeed a blueprint category.
When he saw the information on the blueprint, he was stunned.
[Small Pure Water Collector—Permanently unlocked]: Small Pure Water Collector Blueprint (1/2)
What the—permanent unlock? And it only required two pieces? He had already used one!
Damn it!
Beep beep! Beep beep!
The car horn blared urgently as Lin Mu thumped the steering wheel more times than he could count. He had actually missed the permanent unlock!
But then, who could have known? The menu was so well hidden. Who would have thought there was a “blueprint” option at the bottom? There were axes and knives up top—how was he supposed to guess that blueprints were down below?
All this time, he’d thought that once a blueprint was used, it could be crafted at the workbench. Who knew there was a permanent unlock system?
He felt grateful he hadn’t used the other blueprint, or who knew when the permanent unlock would become available.
Just then, Lin Mu noticed a black iron box placed on the road ahead. Two hundred kilometers reached.
