Chapter 110: Arrival at the Open Plain

Just waiting for Fang Xia to say that, several women immediately abandoned all decorum and began eating eagerly. Fortunately, there was enough meat for everyone, so no one fought over it. Fang Xia took a couple of bites, his eyes half-closed in delight at the delicious taste. It was unimaginable what it felt like for someone who hadn’t eaten fresh meat in a month to finally savor such food.
“Mm!!!”
“Yeah, but it still feels like something’s missing.”
In this post-apocalyptic world, wild boar meat was of excellent quality—lean with only a little fat. The first bite was fragrant and crispy, leaving a lasting aftertaste. Yet, it seemed like it lacked a certain element to make it perfect.
Jing Ru pondered for a moment before stepping outside. After all, there was plenty of meat; she wasn’t worried about missing out. A few minutes later, she returned carrying a large basin.
“Hehe, I asked the chef to prepare a dipping sauce—come and try it!”
Uh... it wasn’t really a dipping sauce, more like a dipping basin.
Bai Xing cut off a large piece of meat, dipped it in, then fed it to Fang Xia.
“Oh.”
That was the feeling—once the dipping sauce was added, the flavor instantly elevated.
“Jing Ru, ask the chef to make more—one basin for each team.”
Jing Ru devoured two more pieces before reluctantly leaving the tent. Soon, cheers erupted outside. On the last fire pit, besides the roasted wild boar, sat a huge pot with its lid tightly closed. After burning for so long, an even more enticing aroma wafted through the air.
With wild boar meat around, snake meat had lost its appeal, mostly because no one knew how to prepare it. So, they decided to turn it into soup instead. Judging by the scene, the soup was ready.
Inside the tent, everyone was eating enthusiastically. The chef brought in a large basin of snake broth. Soup and meat—life couldn’t be more blissful. They had also secretly set up a small stove, where the chef stir-fried several vegetable dishes sent by Chen Gang, slowly being consumed. Meat and vegetables were both well-covered. Add a bowl of fragrant white rice, and life felt even more comfortable than before the apocalypse.

“When we return to the city, we need to set up a planting field. By the way, does our group have any abilities to accelerate planting?” Fang Xia asked Liu Rui as he enjoyed the roast meat.
“No sign of any. Such abilities should be rare. When we get back, I’ll inquire and see if we can find someone with that talent.”
“But we have to act fast. After a while, everyone will know about it.”
Fang Xia nodded. Even if such abilities became valuable later, he believed any woman would gladly join his group, no matter how casually named it was.
“Tonight, we must be careful. The patrol and sentry shifts have to be arranged properly. We’ll only stay outside the city for three to five days at most—no mistakes allowed.”
Night was always the most terrifying time in the wild, with unknown dangers lurking in the darkness. Fang Xia had come here to escape disaster, not to have his group wiped out.
“Don’t worry, I’ve arranged it. For the next few days, I, Xiao Chun, and Bai Xing will take turns on duty. You can go find your twin.” Fang Xia smiled awkwardly.
Since they became intimate, Liu Rui had been keeping a close eye on him, making him “abstain” for several days straight—to teach him a lesson. Otherwise, he’d end up like other leaders, with dozens of sisters.
Liu Rui went out on patrol, and Fang Xia obediently slipped into the next room, where two fragrant bodies had been waiting for him. That night passed peacefully—no zombies, no beasts.
The next morning, when Fang Xia lazily got up, the young women were already busy.
“What are you doing?” he asked one casually.
“Sister Rui told us to make animal traps. She said we need to catch more meat to bring back.”
Animal traps? Watching the women holding thick branches and sharpening them with combat knives, Fang Xia wondered if they underestimated the beasts’ intelligence. Would such huge traps just lying on the path fool the animals into stepping on them by accident?
After some effort, he found Liu Rui directing a group of women laying out the traps. They dug large pits, placed the sharpened stakes inside, then carefully covered them with a thin layer of soil to conceal them. Though a bit rough, the traps should be enough to deceive the beasts.
By midday, the group had formed a large circle of traps around the area.
“Hey, mark them well so no one steps on them by mistake,” Fang Xia warned.
Seeing the women excitedly working, he couldn’t help but remind them—if they didn’t mark the traps, someone might get hurt.
“Don’t worry, Captain,” the women said, already dreaming of feasting on meat every day. Fang Xia could only think how naive they were.
At noon, the women returned to their usual meals, while Fang Xia and a few others hid in the tent, devouring meat hungrily. After yesterday’s roasted wild boar, today’s rice balls were especially hard to swallow, making everyone frown.
“The captain said as long as we catch a beast, we can have a big feast,” someone said.
That boosted everyone’s morale instantly.
“Also, if we catch a large pack, we can feast twice.”
Cheers erupted. Why bother with rice balls—let’s go hunt those beasts now!
“Stop dawdling with rice balls, hurry up—we’re going out to find beasts,” someone urged impatiently.
Since the beasts weren’t coming to them, they had to take the initiative.
Minutes later, most of the women disappeared—they had gone out to forage.
“Aren’t you worried something might happen to them?” Liu Rui asked nearby.
“If they can’t handle this, then maybe they deserve what’s coming,” Fang Xia said coldly. Not out of cruelty, but in this world, you paid the price for what you wanted. Without that awareness, better to die early.
“Keep an eye on the direction of Dawn City. If anything happens, report to me immediately.”
Fang Xia’s main concern now was when the next earthquake would strike. Even though they had moved to an open plain ahead of time, that didn’t guarantee safety.
“Don’t worry. I have people watching every day. We’ll know the moment anything moves,” Liu Rui assured him. She already knew Dawn City would face trouble again soon, though Fang Xia hadn’t revealed details. No need to worry—just follow along.
By afternoon, Fang Xia was idly playing card games with the twin sisters.
