Chapter 128: Kicking a Hard Target
However, Chen Xingde was no fool; one look at their attire told him these were no ordinary women.
He lowered his posture, walked up to the two beauties, and spoke slowly in a voice he considered magnetic. "Ladies, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chen Xingde, and my father is Chen Gang, the Lord of Dawn City. Might I have the honor of inviting you both to my home as guests?"
The onlookers had a sudden realization. So, he had found someone better; no wonder he was willing to let that married woman go. But anyone with eyes could see the disparity between the two. Never mind the clothing—those long legs alone completely eclipsed the previous woman.
"Who are you calling a lady? Your whole family are ladies! Get lost."
To his surprise, Chen Xingde’s supposedly perfect, suave opening did not charm them; instead, it earned him a fierce tongue-lashing. Jing Ru couldn't care less who he was. Even if Chen Gang himself were standing there, he wouldn't dare harass them. The woman with the long legs standing beside her was none other than the number one assassin of Dawn City—everyone feared her. Furthermore, Jing Ru had seen the earlier scene clearly. While she usually wouldn't intervene for no reason, since this idiot had come looking for trouble himself, there was no harm in scolding him.
Given their status, the two were actually prominent figures in Dawn City. However, Jing Ru rarely left her home, and Bai Xing was effectively the shadow at Fang Xia’s side. Even when she went out with the team, she remained low-profile and nearly invisible, only appearing when needed—usually at the enemy's most vulnerable point. Consequently, few among the lower classes recognized them. Even those who recognized Bai Xing kept quiet; Chen Xingde was no saint, and it would be satisfying to see him suffer. They were happy to watch the show.
Chen Xingde was stunned by the sudden verbal assault, unable to process it for a long moment. It wasn't until his bodyguards nudged him that he realized he had been insulted.
"Damn it, you filthy bitch! Don't think that just because you’ve latched onto some big shot you can act arrogant. In this Dawn City, I don't believe you can turn the world upside down."
Chen Xingde had originally intended to be rational and probe their background, but his plan had been derailed from the start. Having been pampered his entire life—and even through the apocalypse—he had never suffered. Now that his father was the Lord of Dawn City, he refused to believe anyone would offend his father for the sake of two women.
But the moment he uttered the words "filthy bitch," his fate was sealed. Bai Xing took a single step forward, and Chen Xingde scrambled back three or four paces in terror.
His four bodyguards immediately stepped up, but before they could even register what was happening, all four were on the ground. Whether or not she intended to kill them, Bai Xing’s strikes were not something to be taken lightly. The four men writhed on the ground, unable to get back up.
These were four third-tier fighters. Unless they encountered a fourth-tier fighter, they could walk through Dawn City unhindered. Even against a fourth-tier fighter, they could usually hold their own for a while. And how many fourth-tier fighters were there in all of Dawn City? Probably fewer than a hundred, mostly core members of the major factions. It wasn't easy to run into one.
Yet, this beautiful, long-legged girl before them was exactly that—a fourth-tier fighter.
Even the dullest observer now realized who they were. In Dawn City, the only group with female fourth-tier fighters was Fang Xia’s team. These two women had to be at least squad leader level, or perhaps even the elusive leader’s own personal harem.
The expressions of the onlookers turned lively. The young city lord had kicked a steel plate. Everyone in Dawn City knew that while this "women's army" was small, their combat prowess was terrifyingly real. Their standard for a thousand-man unit would likely require the other three major factions combined to match. And that wasn't even factoring in Fang Xia; a single fifth-tier fighter would be enough to crush them all.
Chen Xingde finally came to his senses. Before he left, his father had warned him repeatedly: if you offend the Lone Wolf Group, it’s not a big deal. If you offend the Blood Cloak Group, just use my name—it might be troublesome, but manageable. But if you offend Fang Xia’s harem, he couldn't guarantee anything. Women were vengeful creatures; hadn't he heard that it was better to offend a villain than a woman? Especially a group of women with such monstrous strength.
Cold sweat broke out on Chen Xingde’s forehead. He cursed his own stupidity. To find such top-tier beauties in Dawn City—two of them at once—he should have realized they were connected to Fang Xia.
"My ladies, I was wrong! I was blind and didn't recognize you."
A real man knows when to bend, and Chen Xingde chose to submit without hesitation.
"‘My ladies’? Do you mean to say I’m old?" Jing Ru hopped out from behind Bai Xing, appearing genuinely angry. His character was trash, and it seemed his intelligence wasn't much better.
Jing Ru was now acting on personal emotion. She had been furious at the earlier scene, but she knew their identities and didn't want to cause trouble for Fang Xia. But since he had targeted her and called her a "filthy bitch," she knew he was doomed. She might not have had the confidence to act if he had only insulted her, but by insulting Bai Xing, he had shown he was brave—she would grant him a decent death.
Chen Xingde didn't know what to say; everything felt wrong. He prayed for someone to notify his father. How he hated this apocalypse—why were there no cell phones? Was he going to die here?
As he stood there, paralyzed by anxiety, a man suddenly appeared behind him. With one kick, the man shattered his right leg.
"Aaaah!" A miserable shriek echoed through the street.
Fang Xia ignored the noise, lifting him up like a scrawny chicken. "Tell Chen Gang to come find me himself."
Seeing the patrol squads closing in, Fang Xia walked out of the commercial district, dragging Chen Xingde with him. Bai Xing and Jing Ru followed behind, unfazed, truly not believing anyone here would dare court death. If he weren't Chen Xingde, he would already be a corpse. Bai Xing would have ended him long before Fang Xia had to intervene. In the end, his status had saved his life.
"Watch him. His father should be here soon." Before heading upstairs, Fang Xia tossed the man to the female bodyguards. Unsurprisingly, Chen Gang would arrive shortly.
