Chapter 111: The Earthquake

“Yeah, the royal flush! I won again. Sister, if you strip another card, you’ll have nothing left.” Jing Yi tossed down the royal flush with a beaming smile.
She held only one card in her hand, waiting for them to concede so this round could end.
Doctor Jiang glanced over disdainfully and silently muttered “shameless” in his heart.
Just as Jing Yi stood up proudly and was about to lay down her last three, the tent suddenly shook slightly.
Jing Yi lost her balance and stumbled into Fang Xia’s arms nearby.
“Little sister, are you cheating? You must still have two cards.” Her sister seized the opportunity, clasping the cards, trying to cheat.
If she stripped any more, she’d be left with only her underwear—impossible to allow.
Though there were no men around, she would still feel embarrassed.
“Sister, don’t try to cheat. Hurry and strip.” Jing Yi sat back down firmly, stubborn as ever—no use trying to outwit her big sister.
As the two bickered, the tent shook again, this time more violently.
Fang Xia immediately dropped her cards and ran outside, shouting to the others inside.
“Everyone, come out quickly! Pack up the tent!”
Outside, many girls sat on the ground in confusion, the tent having trembled several times.
“Where’s Liu Rui? Gather everyone, call everyone out of the tent, now!”
Within minutes, Liu Rui and Bai Xing came running over.
“Brother Fang, what’s going on?”
Before he arrived, Liu Rui anxiously asked.
“First, gather everyone and pack up. Don’t scatter.”
Liu Rui hurriedly gave orders.
“Brother Fang, half the team is still outside looking for beasts.”
Fang Xia could no longer worry about that.
No wonder they hadn’t found a single beast today—the beasts’ senses were far stronger than humans’, so they must have hidden early.
“Everyone, don’t crowd together. Spread out a bit. Put everything into the space storage, don’t leave anything outside.”
The tremors grew more frequent, and it was becoming increasingly difficult just to stand steady. If this continued, it felt like the earth itself might split apart.
“After spreading out, crouch down. If you can’t, lie face down—but don’t lie on your backs.”

Liu Rui and Bai Xing moved a little to the side.
Others inside the tent scrambled out in panic. Many were knocked to the ground by the shaking and struggled to get up after a moment’s adjustment.
Fang Xia no longer paid attention to them, eyes fixed on the direction of Dawn City.
With the physique of a Tier Three Fighter and standing on flat ground, there should be no casualties.
The earth’s shaking worsened, and Fang Xia could barely crouch.
Ahead, in the direction of Dawn City, the tremors were more terrifying.
From Fang Xia’s perspective, it wasn’t just Dawn City—the entire White City was shaking. Skyscrapers visibly trembled and swayed.
Many girls saw this and felt a sudden chill.
How terrifying it must be inside the city right now. Thankfully, the team leader had brought them out.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, the tallest building in pre-apocalypse White City suddenly collapsed.
Fang Xia could only press himself tightly to the ground to keep steady.
Dust swirled everywhere, and small stones flew wildly.
“Everyone, get down.”
Fang Xia shouted once more, burying his head.
But this was only the beginning of the earthquake.
Inside Dawn City.
The sudden shaking left everyone bewildered; some thought the zombie horde was attacking again.
Everyone was on high alert, scanning all around carefully, fearing sudden zombie appearances.
But minutes passed, and the shaking intensified, yet no zombies appeared.
“What’s really going on?”
Everyone asked, though no one had answers.
Many people in high-rise buildings panicked and rushed outside.
Compared to flat ground, the higher the floor, the scarier the shaking.
For those above the tenth floor, there was no time to descend; the shaking made it difficult to stand.
The earthquake came swiftly, and within just over ten minutes, the first building collapsed.
At this point, people in Dawn City had realized what was happening.
Even if they hadn’t eaten pork, they had seen pigs run—after experiencing an earthquake, you learn to recognize it.
But White City had never experienced an earthquake before, so their response was pitifully inadequate.

Like Fang Xia, even if he had forewarned, all he could do was gather everyone in an open space to crouch down; beyond that, it was all up to fate.
If only Baidu were here to ask in advance—after all, she was all-knowing.
When the first skyscraper fell, it triggered a chain reaction.
One building after another collapsed in succession. The ground shook so violently that no one could stand, only scramble to avoid danger.
But it was no use. When a ten-plus-story building fell, almost no one below survived.
Cries and screams filled the air, a scene of utter hell.
Yet outside the city, through Fang Xia’s eyes, it was a completely different spectacle.
He finally understood how Dawn City came to be in the later timeline of his previous life.
This wasn’t an earthquake at all—it was forcibly reshaping the city, even creating a habitable environment for humanity.
A modern metropolis was different from ancient times.
Ancient cities had towering walls, easy to defend, hard to attack.
But in modern times, close combat and siege warfare were obsolete; wars were fought with planes and missiles, making city walls useless.
But now, things were different.
With firearms gone, everyone had reverted to an ancient style of warfare, and hordes of zombies roamed outside the city.
In Fang Xia’s view, White City was undergoing massive transformation.
Buildings inside kept collapsing, but outside, as the earth compressed, a miraculous wall was rising.
Moreover, the wall kept growing taller.
Sadly, few inside the city could witness this, as they were too busy fleeing.
As the earth’s compression grew fiercer, Fang Xia could barely lift his head, and the wall had already reached several meters high.
These changes continued relentlessly.
Finally, the disaster reached Fang Xia’s area.
With the terrain shifting, cracks appeared outside the city.
Fang Xia immediately noticed and shouted a warning.
“Watch your step—there are cracks!”
Given their physical abilities, as long as they didn’t fall into the fissures, it wouldn’t be too dangerous.
And the cracks didn’t appear suddenly; as they opened gradually, as long as someone wasn’t standing right in the middle, they’d generally be safe.
