Chapter 118: Send Photos and Videos—They’ll Definitely Come
To hear Lin Mu tell it, the distant town was nothing more than his personal warehouse. Given the current strength of his convoy, he wasn't exactly wrong, but Anna still struggled to adapt to the idea.
On her planet, people like this certainly existed, but even the most ruthless bandits only dared to prey on passing trade caravans. As for attacking an entire town? They wouldn't dare. They only ever set their sights on small, vulnerable villages.
Shu Yi nodded first, then shook her head. "I don't know what he did before, but every one of us here has been robbed by him."
"..."
Anna’s brain took a moment to process this. "Wait, let me get this straight—you’re saying all of you were robbed by him?" She had assumed Lin Mu was only talking about Zhang Qian and his group, but Shu Yi, too?
Shu Yi nodded.
Anna thought for a moment and continued, "You don't mean to say that he robbed all of you personally, one by one?" This wasn't a bandit; what kind of bandit kidnapped the people, too?
Shu Yi gave a helpless nod. "That is exactly what happened."
Anna glanced at Lin Mu, wondering if she would ever be able to leave. If his lifespan were to increase later on, would she be stuck here forever?
...
The next day, the town was assaulted by Lin Mu. Artillery fire was his most potent weapon. This town was significantly larger and better fortified than any they had encountered before; it took a full four hours of bombardment to shatter the protective shield.
The resources consumed in the process were countless, but when Lin Mu saw the contents of the warehouse, his face lit up with joy. The haul was ten times what he had expended—a massive profit. That was not to mention the vast amount of scrapable materials that would further bolster his reserves. Once they were ready to leave, tearing the place down would yield even more supplies. No matter how he calculated it, it was a win.
However, he couldn't leave just yet. Lin Mu stood on the spire of the town's tallest clock tower, surveying the horizon. This was the first town they had captured, and he intended to use it as a base to expand outward. Every surrounding village was now a target. With the current number of people and the weaponry at their disposal, the convoy was strong enough to split into three divisions.
With that in mind, he headed to the office and summoned his former team captains. Looking at them, Lin Mu nodded with satisfaction. As the only two captains who had survived from the very beginning of the game, he trusted them to get the job done. As for Zhang Qian, though he was a bit weaker, he could handle other tasks.
"I’ve called you here to assign missions. From today on, this town will serve as our base."
The group was stunned. No more moving forward? Had Lin Mu had a change of heart?
"What about resources?"
"That’s exactly why I called you here. Jiang Han, take your team to scout smaller villages; destroy them all and bring back every resource you find. Zhao Jin, you do the same, but focus on the larger settlements. As for you, Zhang Qian, your job is to find Space Gates—or portals, whatever you want to call them—the kind that trigger missions. But remember, do not enter them. Find them and notify me immediately."
Zhang Qian’s face flushed red. "Captain, I know what’s important. You don't have to keep emphasizing it."
"No, I’m just worried that if you die, I’ll lose another useful tool."
Zhang Qian’s mouth twitched; Lin Mu was as blunt as ever.
"Of course, if the two of you find anything, you must inform me immediately, and I will bring reinforcements right away."
If he wanted better weapons, blueprints were essential. As he had mentioned before, his modification skill only worked on his own gear. He wanted the entire team to be strong, not just himself. If he wanted to be the king of bandits—or an emperor of the wasteland—he needed a powerful force behind him.
The group nodded. After all, this benefited them as well. Lin Mu had never treated them poorly, nor had he ever skimped on their rations. Being able to survive and live well was far better than their previous lives.
Watching them leave, Lin Mu felt a sense of relief. "With them handling things, I can finally take it easy. It really is better to have talented people around."
He tapped his watch and sent a message to Shu Xin and Shu Yi. A moment later, they entered the office.
"Your task now is to recruit more members." He was determined to fill his quota of 100 vehicles. He calculated the time; tonight would mark exactly one month since they started. Since he hadn't received any rewards for the past few weeks, he was bound to get something this time. Even if he didn't know what the reward would be, a vehicle upgrade card was a certainty. It was even possible the convoy limit would increase to 200.
"Brother Mu, the recruitment notices were sent out long ago, but very few people want to join," Shu Xin said helplessly.
Lin Mu frowned. "That shouldn't be. How could a convoy as powerful as ours have no applicants?" They were the number one convoy; even foreign teams couldn't compare to them.
"The people who own the high-level vehicles that meet your requirements already have their own teams. They aren't interested in joining anyone else."
Lin Mu drummed his fingers on the desk. This was indeed a problem. It was a real headache.
Seeing that Lin Mu was silent, the two women stood by waiting without interrupting. Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in his head.
"Go ask 001 for some food and supplies. I want you to prepare gourmet meals and beautiful clothing—make it as luxurious as possible. As for weapons or anything else you need, I’ll make them for you. If you don't know how to cook, get 001 to help, and you just assist."
001 nodded. "Understood, Master."
The sisters exchanged a confused look. What was this about?
"Brother Mu, what are you planning?"
Lin Mu’s lips curled into a smirk. "If they won't come, and they think their lives are already good enough, then I’ll show them what a *real* good life looks like. You don't need to reach out to them anymore. Just post photos and videos on the channel every day. It’ll be a bit of work, but I need your full cooperation."
Lin Mu had already mapped out a series of measures; the rest was up to the two girls. No, Jiang Ying would need to be involved too. Even if she was a bit dim-witted, her figure was undeniably better than the other two. Thinking of her, he added, "Call Jiang Ying as well. I’ll make a few dozen swimsuits for the three of you in all sorts of styles."
"What?"
What was this? Was he asking them to take photos in swimsuits? That was just too embarrassing! But they couldn't disobey Lin Mu’s orders.
"Oh, and bring Anna along, too."
Adding a succubus to the mix would definitely make the effect even better! Lin Mu grew more excited the more he thought about it. He stood up abruptly. "Go do it now. You start on the food, and I’ll go build you a swimming pool."
With that, Lin Mu ran off. Shu Yi and Shu Xin stood there, staring at each other, letting out a deep sigh. It seemed they were about to start selling their charms.
