Chapter 96: The Request Must Be Reasonable
Although Lin Mu was unafraid of anyone now, there was always the possibility of an accident. Both women’s hearts were indeed invested here, but what if something went wrong? If either of them left the convoy now, they could teleport away instantly—he couldn’t afford to take that risk.
The two women were not surprised by the outcome. Shu Xin had only tried out of curiosity and hadn’t expected success. Though she hadn’t known Lin Mu long, she considered herself to understand him well. To pry immense benefits out of his hands was nothing short of a fool’s dream. Especially when it came to matters that might cause him losses—he would never agree to such things.
“Think again about what you want,” Lin Mu said, emphasizing, “but it must be reasonable.”
Shu Yi and Shu Xin exchanged glances. Reasonable? Wasn’t it up to him to decide what was reasonable? How could they be sure what would count?
Each of them had a chance, and the number of opportunities seemed ample, but they truly couldn’t think of anything they wanted.
“Perhaps we should just save it for later,” Shu Xin suggested. Rather than wasting it, it was better to keep it.
Lin Mu shook his head. “You’d better use it now. I’m afraid I’ll forget.”
Who would bother tracking who still had outstanding requests? Too much trouble.
Sighing, Shu Xin wore a troubled expression. Caught off guard, she couldn’t think of anything to ask for.
“Could you give us some materials? We’d like to make some women’s items. Also, could you install a shower for us? Ever since we left here, bathing has become an issue.” She looked at Lin Mu with hopeful eyes.
She’d heard from her sister that after getting her own vehicle, she hadn’t had a proper bath. Only some simple cleaning with water, which, while keeping them somewhat clean, couldn’t compare to the convenience of a shower.
Lin Mu rubbed his chin. The request was not difficult. As for the space, they could sort that out themselves.
“No problem. I’ll make it for you, and how you arrange things is up to you. There’s plenty of room now—the vehicle’s upgrade has made the space much larger than before.”
It wasn’t as spacious as Lin Mu’s own quarters, but for them, it was enough.
He turned to Shu Yi. “She’s finished, what about you?”
“Can we keep her gear and have some snacks as well?”
Lin Mu looked at them. “I won’t comment on Shu Xin’s request—it’s just a bunch of materials. But yours counts as two requests. You can choose either the gear or the snacks.”
“But... That Zhang Qian just took the gear. I just wanted to confirm with you. If that’s how it is, then we’ll take a month’s worth of snacks.”
Shu Yi spread her hands.
“…,” Lin Mu’s mouth twitched. She’d really thought this through?
“Fine, fine. Snacks for you, and the gear as well.”
He had intended to leave that set of gear for Shu Xin anyway—not just for her, but for every member of the convoy. He worried that this fighting style might come up again.
That afternoon, Lin Mu delivered everything they had requested, even providing two portions of snacks. If they rationed, it would last them three months.
At five o’clock, they encountered the third settlement. As usual, the battle was over in ten seconds. This time, there was no option to choose a fighting method—it was straight to combat.
After cleaning up the battlefield, Lin Mu looked at his now overflowing backpack with helplessness. It was already the fourth backpack among the vehicle cores.
He rubbed his chin, wondering if the storage boxes could be upgraded. He’d never considered it before—since the largest storage box only held fifty slots. But now, with so many supplies, they simply couldn’t fit!
Beds could be upgraded; surely storage boxes could, too. With this in mind, he opened the panel to inquire.
“Can a storage box be upgraded using skills?”
[Yes.]
Good, it could be upgraded. His attention shifted to the radar.
“Can the radar be upgraded?”
[Yes. Anything related to the vehicle can be upgraded.]
Lin Mu raised his brows. If that was the case, why not upgrade everything?
He first made a large storage box, then activated his skills.
“Increase the number of slots.”
[Option 1]: Increase by 50 slots. Must use 5 Mustard Stones, 50 Universal Materials.
Only one option appeared. After selecting it, the same options continued to pop up. Once he reached 500 slots, the requirement changed to 10 Mustard Stones and 100 Universal Materials, though the slot increase stayed the same.
Lin Mu kept upgrading until he reached 1,000 slots, then stopped. Next, he made five storage boxes, giving him a total of 5,000 slots.
He emptied all the materials from the filled vehicle cores. Fortunately, each slot could stack up to 999 items, otherwise the boxes wouldn’t be enough.
With that done, Lin Mu turned his attention to the radar. One enhancement increased its range to ten kilometers, which was plenty for him.
Finally, Lin Mu looked at 001, his assistant robot. As long as it was related to the vehicle, 001 should count as well—probably. He wasn’t entirely sure, but it was worth a try.
He selected 001 and placed it in the modification skill window—and to his surprise, it worked.
After some thought, he took a heavy machine gun he’d crafted and inserted it.
“Equip the heavy machine gun as her weapon.”
Seeing the familiar spinning circle appear, Lin Mu breathed a sigh of relief. As long as that showed up, modification was possible.
He looked at 001 and licked his lips. If he trusted anyone in this world, it was this robot that belonged only to him. As for whether the game had a backdoor in 001—he couldn’t control that. If the game wanted him dead, it wouldn’t need 001, just a single thought would do.
So worrying was pointless—it was better to indulge in modifications.
Lin Mu licked his lips and swallowed. Hurry up, little darling, I can’t wait much longer.
Perhaps the skill found it odd, encountering a robot, but the robot was indeed part of the vehicle. He could only try to merge the two bit by bit.
Five minutes passed, and finally the options appeared.
[Option 1]: 1 Mithril Ingot, 1 Silver Ingot, 5 Universal Materials, 5 Mustard Stones.
No explanation, just the material requirements.
It didn’t matter to Lin Mu—so long as modification was possible, everything else could be worked out.
“I didn’t expect it to actually work!”
He hadn’t held much hope, just wanted to give it a try.
